Brought back by Philly
Davis-Price signed with the Eagles' practice squad Wednesday.
Analysis: Davis-Price failed to make the Eagles' initial 53-man roster despite running for 118 yards on 22 carries throughout Philadelphia's three preseason contests. He's now landed on the Eagles' practice squad and could be elevated if one of Saquon Barkley, Kenneth Gainwell or Will Shipley misses time at some point this season.

Let go by Eagles
Davis-Price was waived by the Eagles on Tuesday, Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
Analysis: Davis-Price rattled off 118 rushing yards on 22 carries while also returning a kickoff for 26 yards during the preseason with Philadelphia. The running back ultimately didn't do enough to earn a spot on the initial 53-man roster, but if he clears waivers, he'll likely return to the Eagles' practice squad.

Gets long look Saturday
Davis-Price carried the ball 12 times for 56 yards in Saturday's 26-3 preseason loss to the Vikings.
Analysis: The former 49er handled six straight carries to begin the Eagles' opening drive but fumbled the sixth, marring what was otherwise a solid performance in the team's preseason finale. Davis-Price isn't guaranteed a spot on the season-opening roster due to Saquon Barkley, Kenneth Gainwell and Will Shipley all seemingly having locked into jobs, but he could provide some injury insurance on the practice squad.

Inks with Philly
The Eagles signed Davis-Price to a reserve/future contract Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Davis-Price, a 2022 third-round pick drafted by the 49ers, signed the largest reserve/future contract in the league per his agency Elite Loyalty Sports, which could be notable for his chances of sticking on the roster through the offseason. In his lone cameo for San Francisco last season, Davis-Price carried the ball six times for 21 yards.

Brought back by San Francisco
The 49ers signed Davis-Price to their practice squad Thursday.
Analysis: Davis-Price was cut by San Francisco just two days ago, but the team has now decided to bring the 2023 third-round pick back on its practice squad. The 23-year-old running back has appeared in only one game for the 49ers this season, logging six carries for 21 yards during the team's Week 5 blowout win over the Cowboys.

Cut from team
Davis-Price was waived by the 49ers on Tuesday, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Davis-Price wasn't able to work his way up the team's depth chart and has been a healthy scratch for the majority of the season, seeing action just once this year in Week 5 against the Cowboys. The 2020 third-round selection also saw limited action in his rookie campaign, suiting up only six times. His current tenure in San Francisco will end with 40 carries for 120 yards in seven games played.

Won't play Sunday
Davis-Price (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's contest against the Bengals, Lindsey Pallares of the 49ers' official site reports.
Analysis: It's the third game in a row of Davis-Price being a healthy scratch. His lone appearance of the year came in Week 5 against the Cowboys when he rushed six times for 21 yards.

Inactive Monday
Davis-Price (coach's decision) is again listed as inactive for Monday's matchup with the Vikings, Lindsey Pallares reports.
Analysis: Aside from seeing seven offensive snaps in Week 5, Davis-Price has primarily been a healthy scratch all season, and Monday is no different. His next chance to suit up will come in Week 8 versus the Bengals.

Back on inactive list
Davis-Price (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's matchup against the Browns.
Analysis: Davis-Price got his first snaps of the season during San Francisco's Week 5 blowout win over Dallas, but he's back on the inactive list with Elijah Mitchell healthy again. Mitchell and Jordan Mason will operate as the primary backups to Christian McCaffrey during Week 6.

Remains healthy scratch Sunday
Davis-Price (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's Week 2 game against the Rams.
Analysis: The second-year back remains behind Jordan Mason for the No. 3 running back job, which renders Davis-Price a healthy scratch for the second time in as many games to open the season.

Sitting out Sunday
Davis-Price (coach's decision) is inactive Sunday against the Steelers.
Analysis: Davis was able to secure a spot on the 53-man roster, but he still remains behind Jordan Mason for the No. 3 role at running back. The 23-year-old will now work to earn a chance to suit up next Sunday against the Rams.

Earns spot on team
Davis-Price has a spot on San Francisco's initial 53-man roster.
Analysis: A disappointment last year as a rookie third-round pick, Davis-Price had a better summer this time around and ultimately convinced the 49ers to keep four running backs. His position on the team is somewhat tenuous, as the Niners could swap him out for a player at another position if fellow running back Jordan Mason is quick to recover from a foot sprain. Either way, Christian McCaffrey and Elijah Mitchell figure to take nearly all the RB snaps Week 1 at Pittsburgh.

Makes final case for roster spot
Davis-Price took 10 carries for 61 yards and caught two of three targets for 16 yards in Friday's 23-12 preseason loss to the Chargers.
Analysis: Jordan Mason dominated playing time with the first-team offense even after losing a fumble at the goal line on the opening drive, ultimately recording 10 touches for 72 yards across his two series. The miscue was a big one, of course, and Davis-Price then dominated backfield work with the second-string offense. The Niners might keep both on their initial 53-man roster, but it's not a guarantee, so Davis-Price (or Mason) could end up on the practice squad or with another team instead.

Starts preseason opener
Davis-Price started and gained 29 yards on nine carries (no targets) in Sunday's 34-7 preseason loss to Las Vegas.
Analysis: Davis-Price got the start over projected third-stringer Jordan Mason in a notable lineup change by head coach Kyle Shanahan. Neither back was able to do much behind an offensive line that was not in sync Sunday. Perhaps the coaching staff wanted to see Davis-Price face the Raiders' starting defense. Whatever the reason may be, expect the second-year back to see plenty of action against the Broncos on Saturday.

Looks quicker in practice
Davis-Price is still working behind Elijah Mitchell and Jordan Mason in practice, but the 2022 third-round pick looks "quicker and leaner" than he did last season, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Davis-Price still has time to shake off the "bust" label, but he realistically won't be any higher than third on San Francisco's depth chart if everyone is healthy. Christian McCaffrey is among the two or three best in the league at his position, and Mitchell is one of the NFL's better backups. Challenging Mason for the third spot is a realistic goal but would still leave Davis-Price dependent on injuries to see work outside of garbage time in his second pro season. Disappointing rookie season
Davis-Price rushed for 99 yards and no touchdowns on 34 attempts across six regular-season games in his rookie season.
Analysis: Davis-Price failed to earn a significant role on offense at any point of the season, despite the 49ers needing running back depth. The 2022 third-round pick struggled in limited opportunities, averaging a mediocre 2.9 yards per carry while being limited to a healthy scratch most weeks. Davis-Price will have to prove himself in training camp in order to earn a roster spot next season, as he currently sits fourth on San Francisco's depth chart prior to the draft and free agency.

Davis-Price is inactive for Sunday's NFC Championship Game against the Eagles.

Sitting out Sunday
Davis-Price (coach's decision) is inactive Sunday against the Cowboys.
Analysis: Davis-Price was also a healthy scratch for the team's wild-card round win over the Seahawks. The rookie running back has failed to gain a steady role with the 49ers this season, although he was active for each of the last three weeks of the regular season. The team will roll with Christian McCaffrey, Elijah Mitchell and Jordan Mason in the backfield Sunday against Dallas.

Sitting out Saturday
Davis-Price (coach's decision) is inactive for Saturday's wild-card game against the Seahawks, Lindsey Pallares of the 49ers' official site reports.
Analysis: Davis-Price was active for the final three contests of the regular season and got some run on each occasion, managing 62 yards on 18 rushes (3.4 YPC) and going without a target. But now that the 49ers are in the playoffs, they'll tighten up the backfield, with Christian McCaffrey, Elijah Mitchell and Jordan Mason the available options Saturday and practice-squad call-up Tevin Coleman also inactive.

Disappoints in rookie campaign
Davis-Price played eight snaps in Sunday's win over the Cardinals, carrying eight times for 27 yards.
Analysis: Davis-Price saw action in only six games during his rookie season and finished with a lowly 2.9 yards-per-carry average on 34 totes while failing to find the end zone and going without a target in the passing game. Gets one carry in overtime win
Davis-Price rushed once for five yards and was not targeted in Sunday's 37-34 overtime win over Las Vegas.
Analysis: Davis-Price reverted back to third on the running back depth chart as expected after Jordan Mason (hamstring) was limited by injury Week 16. Both rookie backups logged equal snaps on offense (five), but it was Mason who performed better in a limited role (2-13-1). While Davis-Price remains a non-factor in fantasy, he could see a few touches in the last game of the regular season if the team opts to limit Christian McCaffrey's (ankle) snaps ahead of the playoffs.

Could fall back to No. 3 RB role
Jordan Mason is doing better with his tight hamstring, per David Lombardi of The Athletic, which could result in him resuming backup RB duties while Davis-Price reverts to the third-back role.
Analysis: Davis-Price surprisingly worked as San Francisco's No. 2 back behind Christian McCaffrey against the Commanders on Saturday, and he tallied 30 yards on nine carries. The rookie's elevated role was likely due to Jordan Mason dealing with a hamstring injury and being limited to work on special teams. Now that Mason has improved, he's expected to jump back over Davis-Price on the RB hierarchy. Mason has been quite effective lately, racking up 171 rushing yards on 23 carries between Weeks 13 and 15.

Unexpected role elevation
Davis-Price rushed nine times for 30 yards in Saturday's 37-20 win over the Commanders.
Analysis: Davis-Price was elevated to the No. 2 spot on the running back depth chart despite being kept as a healthy scratch in recent weeks. Regular backup Jordan Mason missed practice with a tight hamstring, perhaps leading to the unexpected game plan change in Week 16. If head coach Kyle Shanahan decides to stick with Davis-Price as his change-of-pace back against Las Vegas next Sunday, he could provide value as a cheap flier in DFS formats.

Sitting out Sunday
Davis-Price (coach's decision) is inactive Sunday against the Buccaneers, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: Davis-Price has failed to earn a steady role in the 49ers' offense this season. The rookie remains behind Jordan Mason and lead back Christian McCaffrey, while practice squad elevation Tevin Coleman will dress ahead of him against Tampa Bay for Week 14. He'll work to earn the opportunity to suit up Week 15 against the Seahawks.

Doesn't see field Sunday
Davis-Price did not see the field on offense or on special teams in Sunday's 33-17 win over the Dolphins.
Analysis: Davis-Price figured to be in the mix for snaps behind Christian McCaffrey on Sunday, but it was Jordan Mason (8-51-0) who took over Elijah Mitchell's (knee) backup spot while maintaining his usual role on special teams. The 2022 third-round pick has struggled to find his way onto the field despite the 49ers having a multitude of injury problems at the running back position this season. Could re-emerge as McCaffrey backup
Davis-Price, who has been a healthy inactive for the 49ers' last three games, could serve as the No. 2 running back behind Christian McCaffrey (knee) in Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Analysis: The last time Davis-Price saw action was in Week 7, when McCaffrey was on a limited snap count in his San Francisco debut. Davis-Price served as McCaffrey's main backup for that contest, as Jeff Wilson was sent out to Miami in a trade a few days earlier and Elijah Mitchell was still on injured reserve. Remains out Week 12
Davis-Price has been ruled a healthy scratch for Sunday's game against the Saints.
Analysis: Davis-Price will be a healthy inactive for the third game in a row after failing to see the field since the 49ers' Week 8 win over the Rams. With the rookie third-rounder out, Christian McCaffrey, Elijah Mitchell and Jordan Mason will once again slot in as San Francisco's top three backs Week 12.

Davis-Price (coach's decision) has been ruled inactive for Monday's game against the Cardinals.
Analysis: Davis-Price saw his playing time fall off Week 8, and he will be a healthy scratch for the second game in a row. Healthy scratch Sunday
Davis-Price (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Davis-Price didn't see any playing time during the 49ers' Week 8 matchup against the Rams, and he'll be a healthy scratch following the Week 9 bye. Christian McCaffrey, Elijah Mitchell and Jordan Mason will operate as San Francisco's three active running backs Sunday.

No playing time Sunday
Davis-Price did not log any snaps in Sunday's 31-14 win over the Rams.
Analysis: Davis-Price was active for this contest, but he wasn't used in any capacity in the win. The addition of star running back Christian McCaffrey (26 touches) and the presence of veteran backup Jeff Wilson (six touches) pushes the rookie back into a reserve role moving forward. Davis-Price and the 49ers will resume play after the upcoming bye week against the Chargers on Nov. 13.

Plays 13 snaps on offense
Davis-Price rushed twice for four yards and failed to bring in either of his two targets in Sunday's 44-23 loss to Kansas City.
Analysis: Davis-Price essentially was a healthy scratch in his return from an ankle injury last week, so Sunday's brief action actually was an increase in playing time. The third-round pick from this year's draft has not played well as a backup through seven weeks, posting a meager 2.3 YPC on 16 rushing attempts. The addition of Christian McCaffrey pushes Davis-Price even further down the depth chart, making the rookie a non-factor heading into next Sunday's tilt against the Rams.

No touches in return
Davis-Price (ankle) logged one offensive snap and received no touches in Sunday's 28-14 loss to Atlanta.
Analysis: Davis-Price returned from a three-game layoff just in time to assist a banged up 49ers backfield, but he essentially was deployed as a healthy scratch. Head coach Kyle Shanahan did not turn to his third-round pick from this year's draft, despite both Jeff Wilson (7-25-0 and a fumble) and Tevin Coleman (4-3-0) struggling from the opening snap. Perhaps Davis-Price will get a few touches against the Chiefs on Sunday.

Logs full practice Wednesday
Davis-Price (ankle) practiced fully Wednesday, David Lombardi of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: After suffering a high-ankle sprain Week 2 against the Seahawks, Davis-Price didn't mix into any drills the last three weeks, so his ability to handle every rep Wednesday signals that he's mostly past the issue. Jeff Wilson (shoulder) has been leading the 49ers backfield since Elijah Mitchell (knee) went down in the season opener, but Davis-Price, a rookie third-round pick, could challenge Tevin Coleman for complementary touches moving forward. Could return to practice Wednesday
Davis-Price (ankle) was spotted taking part in a workout prior to Sunday's 37-15 win over the Panthers and could be ready to return to practice Week 6, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The rookie third-round pick out of LSU hasn't suited up since Week 2 due to a high-ankle sprain, but the 49ers' decision not to move him to injured reserve always left open the possibility that he would miss fewer than four games on account of the injury. Davis-Price still looks like he has a chance to limit his absence to three games and play this coming Sunday in Atlanta, but he'll almost certainly have to return to full practice participation by Friday for that to become a reality. Set to miss time with ankle injury
Coach Kyle Shanahan relayed Monday that Davis-Price will miss a few weeks with a high-ankle sprain, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Analysis: With Elijah Mitchell (knee) on IR, Davis-Price stepped into an increased role in the 49ers backfield Week 2 behind Jeff Wilson, carrying the ball 14 times for 33 yards. Now that Davis-Price is in line to miss some time, rookie Jordan Mason, who joined the team as an undrafted free agent in May, now should have an opportunity to carve out a complementary role in the coming weeks, while Marlon Mack is a candidate to be promoted from the team's practice squad.

Big volume in Week 2 win
Davis-Price carried the ball 14 times for 33 yards in Sunday's 27-7 win over the Seahawks.
Analysis: The rookie was inactive last week, but Davis-Price worked as the 49ers' No. 2 back behind Jeff Wilson in this one after Elijah Mitchell (knee) landed on the IR. He saw most of his touches in the second half after San Francisco took a 20-0 lead into intermission and did little with his opportunities, but fellow rookie Jordan Mason didn't see any touches at all. To compete for backup job
Davis-Price -- who was inactive in Sunday's loss to the Bears -- will compete with Jordan Mason during practice this week for the primary backup job behind Jeff Wilson following the news Elijah Mitchell (knee) has an eight-week recovery timetable, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Barrows also shed light on how Davis-Price lost out to fellow rookie Jordan Mason in a private training camp battle for third on the depth chart. This landed the third-round pick from this year's draft as a healthy scratch for Week 1, rendering the LSU product helpless as his team scrambled for a replacement for Mitchell in the second half of a disappointing loss. Whoever wins the job battle should get some work alongside Wilson against the Seahawks on Sunday.

Davis-Price (coach's decision) is listed as inactive Sunday in Chicago, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Analysis: The 49ers invested a third-round pick in a running back for a second consecutive season, but Davis-Price won't make his presence felt in his first chance to do so Week 1. This backfield is the domain of 2021 sixth-rounder Elijah Mitchell, with fellow back Jeff Wilson and even wide receiver Deebo Samuel getting action on the carry front. Efficient in second preseason game
Davis-Price rushed 10 times for 41 yards in Saturday's preseason win over the Vikings. He added one reception for six yards.
Analysis: Davis-Price was the third back on the field after Trey Sermon and JaMycal Hasty, though he still appeared on the team's first drive. He tallied only one additional carry in the first half, though he ripped off a series of impressive gains that went for 14, 12 and six yards later in the contest. Davis-Price's role in the offense remains unclear for the moment, though he does shift up the depth chart so long as Elijah Mitchell (hamstring) remains sidelined.

Modest production in preseason win
Davis-Price rushed 10 times for 36 yards and failed to bring in his only target during the 49ers' 28-21 preseason win over the Packers on Friday night.
Analysis: The rookie third-round pick paced the backfield in carries on a night when Elijah Mitchell (hamstring) and Jeff Wilson (coach's decision) didn't see action. However, Davis-Price's backfield mates JaMycal Hasty and Jordan Mason averaged 7.2 and 5.0 yards per carry, respectively, shining the light on the LSU product's struggles a bit more. Will compete for backup job in camp
Davis-Price has an opportunity to secure the primary backup role to Elijah Mitchell in training camp, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Analysis: Mitchell had a breakout rookie campaign in 2021, so there's no controversy as to who will head the 49ers backfield this season. However, the change-of-pace/backup role is up for grabs, and Davis-Price is in prime position to prove his meddle and claim the job if he can outperform veteran Jeff Wilson and San Francisco's third-round pick from a year ago, Trey Sermon.
