Let go by Buffalo
McKitty was waived by the Bills on Tuesday, Alec White of the team's official website reports.
Analysis: McKitty signed a reserve/future contract with Buffalo in January, reeling in a 20-yard reception on his only target in the preseason. If the tight end clears waivers, he could join the Bills' practice squad ahead of the 2024 campaign.

Signs with Buffalo
The Bills signed McKitty to a reserve/future contract Monday.
Analysis: McKitty finished the season on Buffalo's practice squad, and now he'll get a chance to compete for a spot on its 53-man roster for 2024. He played six games with the Chargers this season, but he did not draw any targets.

Joins Bills' practice squad
Buffalo signed McKitty to its practice squad Tuesday.
Analysis: Just a week after being waived by the Chargers, McKitty has already found another opportunity with a new team. With Dawson Knox (wrist) and Zach Davidson (undisclosed) both on the Bills' injured reserve list, McKitty could be called up as soon as Monday versus Denver.

Let go by Los Angeles
The Chargers waived McKitty on Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: McKitty played 96 snaps -- 61 on offense and 35 on special teams -- across six games this season and did not record a stat. The 2021 third-round pick didn't get much of a chance to participate in the Chargers' offense behind Gerald Everett and Donald Parham. McKitty will be able to explore his next moves should he clear waivers.

Serving as No. 4 tight end
McKitty went without a target while playing three of his 14 total snaps on offense in the Chargers' 27-24 overtime loss to the Titans on Sunday.
Analysis: McKitty might be the best blocker among the four tight ends on the Chargers' 53-man roster, but his prowess in that regard hasn't earned him much work thus far. He's played just eight snaps on offense through the first two weeks, placing McKitty well behind Gerald Everett (79), Donald Parham (67) and Stone Smartt (26).

Inefficient season
McKitty finished the 2022-23 season catching 10 of his 18 targets for 72 yards.
Analysis: McKitty failed to surpass 100 yards on the season despite playing in every game, and he was outgained by Donald Parham, who only suited up for six contests. While McKitty has primarily been used as a run blocker, he has still failed to live up to his status as a third-round pick. Don't expect McKitty to be involved more as a pass catcher unless the Chargers opt not to bring back Parham, who is a restricted free agent.

Just one catch
McKitty snared one of his two targets for 10 yards in the 20-3 win over the Colts on Monday.
Analysis: McKitty continues to see plenty of snaps as a blocking specialist and has slowly been incorporated into the passing attack more as a result. The second-year tight end has drawn four targets in the past four games after combining for just seven total from Weeks 1-11. Needless to say, McKitty should not be in fantasy consideration unless injuries impact the availability of Donald Parham or Gerald Everett.

Records short reception in win
McKitty recorded a five-yard reception on his lone target in Sunday's 23-17 win over the Chargers.
Analysis: Though Gerald Everett is the Chargers' starting tight end, McKitty frequently shares the field with him. He played 40 snaps on offense in Week 14, though unlike Everett -- who finished with five catches for 28 yards on eight targets -- McKitty wasn't prominently featured in the passing attack. Since earning six targets Week 10 against the 49ers, McKitty has drawn only two looks from quarterback Justin Herbert in the Chargers' subsequent four games.

Ineffective in loss
McKitty caught his only target for eight yards during the 27-20 loss to the Raiders on Sunday.
Analysis: McKitty was targeted for just the first time in the past three weeks as he continues to fight for opportunities. Despite playing nine more snaps than Stone Smartt, he was still targeted two less times than the rookie tight end, as he continues to be utilized primarily as a blocking specialist. Barring an injury, McKitty's production shouldn't be expected to increase and thus doesn't have much fantasy value except in the deepest of leagues.

Targetless in win
McKitty did not see a single target during Sunday's 25-24 win against the Cardinals.
Analysis: Gerald Everett (groin) returned to the lineup after missing last week's game, relegating McKitty to his role as blocking specialist. With Everett and Keenan Allen (hamstring) now healthy, along with Mike Williams (ankle) potentially returning soon, McKitty should continue to struggle with getting targets, and he doesn't have much fantasy value except in the deepest of leagues.

Absent in box score despite start
McKitty did not record a target in Sunday's 30-27 loss to Kansas City.
Analysis: Even with Gerald Everett (groin) out, McKitty never factored in the box score. The second-year tight end did end up playing 60 percent of the offensive snaps, so it wasn't as if he lacked playing time. Everett's absence is not expected to be a long-term issue, which means McKitty will likely return to his depth role.

Big drop in loss
McKitty caught three of his six targets for 21 yards in Sunday's 22-16 loss to the 49ers.
Analysis: McKitty saw a massive increase in playing time after Gerald Everett left Sunday's game with a groin injury, and the second-year tight end would have had a nice outing if not for an easy first-half drop that would have went for a touchdown. Everett's status is one to monitor this week, as the Chargers typically tend to use at least one tight end as a pass catcher, particularly with Mike Williams (ankle) and Keenan Allen (hamstring) sidelined. Typically known as a blocking specialist, McKitty…read more

Can't corral either target Week 5
McKitty played 35 of the Chargers' 69 offensive snaps and failed to haul in either of his two targets in Sunday's 30-28 win over the Browns.
Analysis: Even though Donald Parham (hamstring) suited up for the first time all season, McKitty maintained his standing as the No. 2 tight end behind Gerald Everett. McKitty managed to clear 50 percent of the offensive snaps for the fourth time in five games, but he continued to function mostly as a blocker during his time on the field. The 6-foot-4, 246-pound McKitty is unlikely to see an expanded role in the passing attack unless Everett misses time.

Compiles catches
McKitty compiled three receptions (on four targets) for 24 yards in Sunday's 24-19 victory over the Raiders.
Analysis: Both McKitty and typical starter Gerald Everett played 40-plus snaps as the Chargers transitioned to a multi-TE system after Keenan Allen left with a hamstring injury. McKitty is known more as a blocker than receiver, so his playing time should be relatively secure given the team's tendency to use multiple blockers even in passing situations, but it's unclear if the second-year tight end can really accumulate enough targets to be a fantasy dependable option most weeks.

Left off injury report
McKitty (undisclosed) was not listed on the Chargers' injury report Wednesday.
Analysis: McKitty missed practice time in early August while dealing with a "soft tissue" injury, but he looks to have overcome this issue heading into Los Angeles' Week 1 contest against Las Vegas. The 2021 third-round pick, who recorded six receptions for 45 yards during his rookie campaign, should play a reserve role behind tight ends Gerald Everett and Donald Parham this season.

Misses practice
McKitty (undisclosed) didn't practice Wednesday, Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Analysis: Coach Brandon Staley stated McKitty is dealing with a "soft tissue" injury, adding the tight end is day-to-day. It appears the team is exercising caution with the second-year tight end. McKitty currently finds himself behind both Gerald Everett and Donald Parham in the tight end pecking order, so it's likely he'll face an uphill battle for playing time this season, barring an injury to either of his aforementioned teammates.

Quiet rookie season
McKitty caught six of eight targets for 45 yards across 11 appearances during the 2021 campaign.
Analysis: McKitty didn't play until after the Chargers' Week 7 bye, but the third-round rookie appeared in every game after that, notching double-digit offensive snaps in all but one contest. However, he didn't really get involved in the passing game until Donald Parham suffered a concussion Week 15. From Weeks 15-18, McKitty drew at least one target in each game and caught five of six targets for 38 yards. With starting tight end Jared Cook set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, McKitty…read more

Three grabs in win
McKitty caught all three of his targets for 22 yards in Sunday's 34-13 win over the Broncos.
Analysis: McKitty saw increased playing time Sunday with both Jared Cook (reserve/COVID-19) and Donald Parham (concussion) out for the contest. The rookie shared tight-end duties with Stephen Anderson, though McKitty played just 52 percent of the team's offensive snaps compared to Anderson's 78 percent share. McKitty, however, was more involved in the passing game, seeing three targets to Anderson's one. Parham remains on injured reserve, so if Cook isn't activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list in time…read more

Records second catch of season
McKitty hauled in his only target for four yards during Thursday's overtime loss 34-28 against the Chiefs.
Analysis: McKitty, a 2021 third-round pick, saw his first game with over 35 offensive snaps on the season after Donald Parham left early in the game with a serious head injury. The 22-year-old tight end has been extremely underutilized in his rookie year as the Chargers have incredible depth at the tight end position. That being said, if Parham were to miss extended time with his injury, there would be additional opportunities for McKitty and Stephen Anderson to take snaps at tight end. Neither backup…read more

Second target all season
McKitty did not catch his only target in Sunday's 28-13 loss to the Broncos.
Analysis: This is only the second time McKitty has been targeted all season as he did not play the first six games. The third-string tight end picked up seven yards in last week's game, catching his only target this year. The rookie has been splitting time with Stephen Anderson, with both Jared Cook and Donald Parham far exceeding the aforementioned duo's playing time.
