Exits COVID protocols
Sterns was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Analysis: Sterns spent eight days in COVID protocols. Now cleared to return, he should provide depth at safety and work on special teams Saturday against the Chiefs.

Lands on COVID-19 list
The Broncos placed Sterns (undisclosed) on the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Analysis: Sterns returned to the field Sunday after he missed the Broncos' Week 15 loss to the Bengals due to a shoulder injury. It's not yet clear whether the safety has tested positive for COVID-19 or whether he'll be available for Sunday's Week 17 matchup against the Chargers.

Returns to full practice
Sterns (shoulder) was a full practice participant Thursday.
Analysis: Sterns missed Denver's Week 15 matchup against Cincinnati with a shoulder issue. However, he's now logged a limited and full practice in the first two days of preparation for a Week 16 matchup against Las Vegas and appears prepared to return to game action. Through 13 games this season, Sterns has recorded 19 tackles, five passes defended, two interceptions and two sacks.

Won't play Sunday
Sterns (shoulder) is inactive Sunday against the Bengals, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Analysis: Sterns absence doesn't hit as hard with Kareem Jackson (back) active, but it still hurts the depth of the Broncos secondary. The rookie's inability to play Sunday will likely lead to extra work for PJ Locke and Jamar Johnson.

Will play Sunday
Sterns (shoulder) is active for Sunday's game against Philadelphia, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
Analysis: Sterns missed Wednesday's practice before logging limited performances to close out the week. As a result, the Broncos won't be without one of their depth pieces in the secondary.

Notches another interception
Sterns recorded two tackles and one pass defended, including an interception in Sunday's 30-16 win over the Cowboys.
Analysis: Sterns now has two interceptions on the year. The rookie safety has made impact plays throughout the 2021 campaign thus far, and he will look to continue this trend as the Broncos take on the Eagles in Week 10.

Ready to go Thursday
Sterns (illness) is active for Thursday's game against the Browns.
Analysis: Sterns was questionable with an illness. However, he returned to log a limited practice Wednesday and is set to continue to play primarily in a special-teams role. In six games this season, Sterns has managed seven tackles, three passes defended and one interception.

Questionable for Week 7
Sterns (illness) is listed as questionable for the Broncos' Thursday night game against the Browns, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
Analysis: Sterns started off the practice week healthy but then missed practice Tuesday and was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice. If he's available to play Thursday, the rookie will hope to log defensive snaps against a depleted Cleveland offense. Expect Jamar Johnson or PJ Locke to take over Sterns' depth role Thursday if he can't suit up.

Gets to QB twice in loss
Sterns recorded two sacks in Sunday's 23-7 loss to the Ravens.
Analysis: Sterns' two sacks were his first of his young career. The rookie safety has now made impact plays in two straight games after recording his first interception in Week 3. Sterns has a chance to keep things going in Week 5 when the Broncos visit the Steelers. Through four games, Ben Roethlisberger has been sacked 10 times and thrown four interceptions.

Misses practice
Sterns (hip) was held out of practice Monday, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Sterns sat out due to hip soreness after playing 54 snaps in Saturday's win over the Vikings, the second most of any Broncos defender. The rookie safety has had a strong training camp thus far, and his performance Saturday continued to impress, as he registered a team-high six tackles and had a touchdown-saving pass breakup in the end zone. Sterns is currently battling to take hold of the No. 3 safety spot behind veterans Kareem Jackson and Justin Simmons, and he is certainly making a…read more

Impressive in camp
Sterns has impressed teammates and coaches alike by almost always being in the right place, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Sterns' consistency and playmaking ability are catching the attention of the Broncos organization early in camp. When asked about the safety's progress thus far, Coach Vic Fangio said, "He's done a good job of picking up our defense, learning it and being able to graduate from level one to level two and level three." This is high praise for the 21-year-old University of Texas product as he competes for the No. 3 safety spot behind veterans Kareem Jackson and Justin Simmons. Sterns will look to…read more
