Set to join jets
Kinlaw agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Jets on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Kinlaw was drafted by the 49ers in 2020 and has spent four years there. He finished the 2023 campaign with 25 tackles (13 solo), including 3.5 sacks, and three passes defensed across 17 games as a depth interior lineman. He will play a similar role in New York while he works to earn reps behind Quinton Jefferson (groin) and Quinnen Williams.

Underwhelms in fourth season
Kinlaw finished the 2023 regular season with 25 tackles (13 solo), 3.5 sacks and three passes defensed across 17 games. He added nine stops (seven solo) over the 49ers' three playoff games.
Analysis: Kinlaw's fourth season with San Francisco came to a tepid end, despite appearing in every game for the first time in his career. The 2020 first-round selection operated primarily as a backup to Javon Hargrave, who was signed last offseason to handle the role Kinlaw was supposed to fill when he was drafted. The 49ers already declined Kinlaw's fifth-year option for 2024, making the interior lineman an unrestricted free agent at the start of the new league year.

Picks up two sacks
Kinlaw tallied four tackles (two solo) and two sacks in the 49ers' 42-19 win over the Eagles in Week 13.
Analysis: Kinlaw's two sacks were his first of the season. His tackle total was also a season-high. The defensive tackle did his damage on just 21 defensive snaps (30 percent). He will continue to provide depth on the interior defensive line going forward.

Plays in finale
Kinlaw (illness) played in Friday's preseason 23-12 loss to the Chargers, Kyle Madson of ninerswire.usatoday.com reports.
Analysis: Kinlaw did not record any stats, but he did play a ton of snaps and displayed effectiveness on the pass and run. The 25-year-old defensive tacikle appears ready to go for the 2023 season. He is expected to rotate on the interior line with Javon Hargrave and Arik Armstead.

Dealing with illness
Kinlaw (illness) won't play in Saturday's preseason game against the Broncos, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The No. 14 overall pick in the 2020 Draft, Kinlaw is trying to right the ship on his career after he missed 26-of-50 games in his first three seasons. Kinlaw previously already had his fifth-year option declined for 2024. He's trying to carve out a role in the defensive line rotation.

Fifth-year option declined
The 49ers opted not to pick up the fifth-year option on Kinlaw's rookie contract Friday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Kinlaw was selected by the 49ers with the 14th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, but he has struggled to stay healthy, playing in just 24 games in his first three seasons. General manager John Lynch told reporters on Friday that Kinlaw was having "an outstanding offseason," and San Francisco views him as a key rotational player for the defense. Kinlaw will be behind defensive tackle Javon Hargrave, who signed a four-year, $84 million contract with the 49ers in March.

Clears final injury report
Kinlaw (knee) doesn't have a designation for Saturday's wild-card matchup versus Seattle.
Analysis: Kinlaw has been largely limited since returning from his 11-game hiatus due to a knee injury, though he did suit up for the final three games of the regular season. The 2020 first-round pick then remained limited during practice Tuesday and Wednesday before working his way back to full participation Thursday. Kinlaw should continue to see prominent usage alongside fellow defensive tackles Kevin Givens, T.Y. McGill and Arik Armstead (foot/ankle), the latter of whom is also set to play Saturday.

Still dealing with injury
Kinlaw (knee) was listed as a limited participant on the 49ers' injury report Tuesday.
Analysis: Kinlaw was activated from injured reserve Dec. 23 and played in each of the final three games of the regular season, though he's still routinely appeared on the injury report with this lingering knee injury. The 25-year-old did play 42 percent of San Francisco's defensive snaps Week 18, marking his most significant playing time since returning from IR. With fellow defensive tackle Arik Armstead (foot/ankle) also dealing with persistent injuries, it will be worth monitoring the status of these…read more

Kinlaw (knee) is active Sunday against the Cardinals, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Questionable versus Arizona
Kinlaw (knee) is considered questionable for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
Analysis: Kinlaw was activated from injured reserve Dec. 23 and has played 35 defensive snaps across the last two games. The 2020 first-round pick then began Week 18 with back-to-back DNPs, though he was able to log one limited practice during Friday's sessions. Should Kinlaw ultimately sit out, San Francisco would be without its top three defensive tackles for Sunday's regular-season finale, as Kevin Givens (knee) has already been ruled out while Arik Armstead (foot/ankle) is also considered…read more

Good to go Week 17
Kinlaw (knee) does not carry an injury designation for Sunday's game versus the Raiders, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Analysis: Kinlaw went on IR with a knee injury sustained during the Week 3 win over Denver, and he missed every game before returning to the active roster ahead of last Sunday's win versus the Commanders. The 2020 first-round pick ended up logging one tackle over 14 defensive snaps against Washington and opened Week 17 prep as a non-participant in Wednesday's practice. Kinlaw then ramped up his participation with a limited session Thursday, so it's possible he could again see limited defensive snaps…read more

Activated from injured reserve
The 49ers activated Kinlaw (knee) from injured reserve Friday.
Analysis: Kinlaw was designated to return from injured reserve Tuesday and has since been added to the active roster, putting him in line to make his first appearance since suffering an elbow injury during Week 3. Given his prolonged absence, Kinlaw figures to be limited during his presumed return to action against the Commanders on Saturday.

Set to practice this week
The 49ers designated Kinlaw (knee) to return from injured reserve Tuesday, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Although Kinlaw is now free to return to practice, he'll ultimately sit out of Tuesday's session and instead debut Wednesday, per Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News. The former first-round draft pick hasn't played since he suffered a knee injury back Week 3 against Denver, but Tuesday now marks day one of the 21-day window for San Francisco to add him back to their active roster. Expected to sit Thursday
Coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that the plan is for Kinlaw (knee) to return to practice during Week 16, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Shanahan's update essentially rules Kinlaw out for Thursday's matchup against Seattle, but it appears the third-year defensive tackle could be designated to return in Week 16. Once he returns to practice, he'll have a 21-day window to be added to the active roster, but if he isn't, he'll revert back to IR for the remainder of the season.

Goes on IR
The 49ers placed Kinlaw (knee) on injured reserve Saturday, Josh Dubow of The Associated Press reports.
Analysis: Kinlaw first suffered the knee injury during practice Week 4, missing the 49ers' subsequent two games as a result. The defensive tackle wasn't as healing as well as the 49ers had hoped leading up to Sunday's game in Atlanta, so he'll end up missing at least four more contests while he recovers from the knee injury. Kinlaw had tallied two tackles across 98 snaps through San Francisco's first three games.

Inactive Monday
Kinlaw (knee) was ruled inactive for Monday night's game against the Rams, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Kinlaw did not practice Friday and was considered questionable on the 49ers' injury report Sunday due to a knee injury. The 2020 first-round pick returned in Week 1 after suffering a season-ending torn ACL last October, though it's unclear if this new issue is related. With Kinlaw out, Kevin Givens and Maurice Hurst will step into larger roles alongside defensive tackle Arik Armstead.

Returns to practice
Kinlaw (knee) participated in team drills during the 49ers' practice Saturday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Kinlaw practiced again for the first time since undergoing season-ending surgery in late October to repair an injured ACL. The 2020 first-round pick totaled a modest eight tackles through the first four games of the 2021 campaign, but, after Maurice Hurst suffered what should be a season-ending biceps injury Friday, Kinlaw still figures to reprise a prominent role at defensive tackle heading into this regular season.

Kinlaw (knee) was seen observing the on-field training session during the 49ers' OTAs on Tuesday, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Tuesday that Kinlaw is still recovering from ACL surgery but is expected to be ready for training camp, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. The 2020 first-round selection played four games before needing season-ending surgery in late October. A typical recovery timeline suggests that Kinlaw could be ready to return to action by July at the earliest, which would also fit in with his expected return according to Shanahan.

Kinlaw (knee) needed ACL reconstruction surgery, David Lombardi of The Athletic of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Kinlaw was put on injured reserve Oct. 30 after having season-ending surgery on his knee, but little was known about the procedure. During surgery it was found that Kinlaw had chronic changes to his ACL and the best treatment was ACL reconstruction. The 49ers' 2020 first-round selection should be able to return in 2022.

Has season-ending surgery
Coach Kyle Shanahan revealed Friday that Kinlaw ended up getting season-ending surgery on his knee, David Lombardi of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Kinlaw will finish his sophomore season with just eight tackles and no sacks over four appearances. On the bright side, Shanahan believes the surgery has successfully addressed the issue with Kinlaw's knee. The 2020 first-round pick will aim for a healthier and more productive 2022 campaign, while Kentavius Street will likely jump into a starting role along San Francisco's defensive line.

Kinlaw is in Los Angeles on Wednesday for knee evaluations and may need season-ending surgery, David Lombardi of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Kinlaw has been dealing with a knee issue since training camp, but he has needed to miss only Week 1 and Week 7 so far. However, he has spent multiple weeks off and on the injury report between games. If Kinlaw opts for season-ending surgery, he'll end his sophomore campaign with eight tackles (one solo).

The 49ers have activated Kinlaw (undisclosed) from the reserve/COVID-19 list, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Kinlaw was placed on the 49ers' reserve/COVID-19 list Nov. 18 during their bye week. It remains unclear if he ever tested positive for the illness or was a high-risk close contact. While he did get activated, he remains questionable for Sunday's game against the Rams.

Shifts to COVID-19 list
The 49ers placed Kinlaw on the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Cameron Salerno of The Sacramento Bee reports.
Analysis: The rookie first-round pick either tested positive for the virus or came into close contact with an infected person. Kinlaw will need to clear the league's COVID-19 protocols before returning to team activities. The 49ers are on a Week 11 bye, providing additional time.

Inks deal
Kinlaw and the 49ers officially to terms on a four-year contract Friday, Kevin Patra of NFL.com reports.
Analysis: Kinlaw was selected by the 49ers with the 14th overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft. They took him with the same pick they got from the Colts in exchange for star defensive tackle DeForest Buckner. The rookie certainly has big shoes to fill, but he's a much more affordable option than Buckner for San Francisco right now. The South Carolina product checks in at 6-foot-5, 324 pounds, and he figures to start right away on the line.
