Justin Strnad has recorded a 20.0% run stop rate over the last three weeks in place of the injured Alex Singleton.
Updated Tue, Oct 15 at 12:14pm -
Notches sack in defeat
Strnad registered seven tackles (five solo), including 1.0 sacks, in Sunday's Week 6 loss to the Chargers.
Analysis: Strnad's fourth-quarter sack came on third down, resulting in a Chargers punt. It was the linebacker's second sack over the past three weeks after coming into the campaign with no sacks over 50 career regular-season games. Strnad didn't have much of a chance to get to the quarterback prior to 2024, though, as he played exclusively on special teams in both 2022 and 2023.

Logs two TFLs vs. Jets
Strnad recorded four total tackles (three solo), including 1.0 sacks and an additional tackle for loss, in Sunday's 10-9 win over the Jets.
Analysis: The Wake Forest product was filling in for the injured Alex Singleton (knee) in Week 4 and didn't disappoint, leading the Broncos in tackles for loss while notching the first sack of his career. After Sunday's performance, Strnad is expected to continue starting alongside Cody Barton in Denver's inside-linebacker corps.

Good to go vs. Packers
Strnad (groin) participated in warmups ahead of Sunday's preseason game against Green Bay, Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Strnad sustained a groin injury that kept him out of Denver's preseason opener against Indianapolis on Aug. 11. Now healthy, he'll use Sunday's game to make his case for a depth inside linebacker spot on the Broncos' final 53-man roster. The 2020 fifth-round pick played all 389 of his snaps last year on special teams and finished with five tackles (four solo) across 17 regular-season games.

Nursing groin injury
Strnad was unavailable for practice Tuesday with a groin injury, Ryan McFadden of The Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Strnad will have a few more days to get back out on the practice field ahead of Denver's preseason opener Sunday in Indianapolis. The linebacker re-signed with the Broncos in March, and he's attempting to secure a top reserve spot at interior linebacker in 2024.

Decides to remain with Denver
Strnad agreed Tuesday with the Broncos on a one-year deal, Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, Strnad was reportedly close to signing a deal with the Panthers, but ultimately the 27-year-old elected to remain in Denver. He played in all 17 regular-season contests in 2023 but played solely on special teams and finished with just five tackles. The Wake Forest product is thus in line to serve as a depth linebacker and core special-teams contributor for Denver in 2024.

Gearing up for offseason program
Strnad (wrist) will be ready to participate when Broncos team workouts open up this spring, Ryan O'Halloran of The Denver Post reports.
Analysis: The Broncos acquired Strnad in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, intrigued by the pass-defending skill set he showcased during his career at Wake Forest. After dislocating the lunate bone and suffering multiple torn ligaments in his wrist during an August practice, Strnad did not ultimately field a single snap during his rookie campaign. Strnad's rehabilitation process incorporated upper body exercises several weeks ago, according to Troy Renck of Denver7 News. Now, it's confirmed the…read more

Placed on IR
The Broncos placed Strnad (wrist) on injured reserve Monday, per the NFL's transaction list.
Analysis: Strnad is expected to undergo wrist surgery that will force him to miss the entire 2020 season, so this news isn't quite surprising. Strnad will likely spend the season on the team's IR barring an injury settlement.

Season-ending wrist injury
Strnad will undergo wrist surgery and miss the 2020 season, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Analysis: Although he's only a late fifth-round pick out of Wake Forest, Strnad was a candidate to provide upgraded coverage snaps over starting inside linebacker Todd Davis, who's currently sitting out with a calf injury. Strnad's absence might leave more snaps on Davis' plate when he gets over the calf issue, while the other inside linebacker spot will go to Alexander Johnson.

Dealing with injury
Strnad suffered a wrist injury during Sunday's practice, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
Analysis: The specifics of the injury remain unclear, and it's possible the injury could jeopardize the 2020 fifth-round pick's availability for the regular season. The Wake Forest product has impressed his head coach Vic Fangio during training camp, pushing for a depth role in the defense.

Impressing head coach
Head coach Vic Fangio said Wednesday that he has liked what he's seen from Strnad to start training camp, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Analysis: While at Wake Forest, Strnad finished second in the ACC with 105 total tackles in 2018, and he was exceeding that pace in 2019 before tearing his bicep seven games into his last season of college. Alexander Johnson and Todd Davis are solidified as the Broncos' starters at the two inside linebacker spots, but Strnad's sure tackling and skills in coverage should leave him as the next man up at the position.
