Let go by Miami

Available Sunday
Needham (Achilles) is active ahead of Sunday's game against the Patriots.
Analysis: The 26-year-old corner is in line to make his first appearance of the season, as he tore his Achilles during Miami's 2022 Week 6 contest. Needham will add depth to a Dolphins secondary that will be without Xavien Howard (groin) for the second consecutive game.

Coming off PUP list
Miami activated Needham (Achilles) from its reserve/PUP list Tuesday.
Analysis: The Dolphins originally designated Needham for return 20 days ago, and after a few weeks of practice, it seems he's finally on the precipice of returning to game action. He should see notable playing time as soon as he's back in pads.

Designated from PUP
The Dolphins designated Needham (Achilles) to return from the reserve/PUP list Wednesday, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Needham has spent the season on the PUP list as he recovers from a torn Achilles suffered last season but he is now closer to making his return. The 26-year-old will add solid depth to Miami's secondary once he's officially added to the active roster.

Starting on PUP list
The Dolphins placed Needham (Achilles) on the reserve/PUP list Tuesday.
Analysis: Needham will need to miss at least the first four games of the season as he continues to recover from an Achilles injury suffered last October. Once back to full health he's expected to handle a depth role at cornerback, which will be especially crucial for Miami with Jalen Ramsey (knee) expected to miss significant time.

Placed on PUP list
Needham (Achilles) was placed on the active/PUP list Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Analysis: Needham is still recovering from the torn Achilles he suffered last October, but he will remain eligible to return to practice and play at any point this preseason. The cornerback returned to Miami on a one-year deal this offseason and he's expected to slot in as a depth option behind Xavien Howard and Jalen Ramsey (shoulder) in 2023.

Spotted running at OTAs
Needham (Achilles) was seen running off to the side at Tuesday's practice, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports.
Analysis: Needham suffered a torn Achilles tendon in Week 6 last season and missed the remainder of the year. Now seven-plus months removed from the injury, he remains in the rehab phase. Needham was re-signed to a one-year deal as a free agent in March and will compete for the third cornerback job behind starters Xavien Howard and newcomer Jalen Ramsey.

Recovering well from Achilles tear
Needham (Achilles) is expected to get out of his walking boot in a month, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Needham's recovery from the torn Achilles he suffered in October is going well as he enters the offseason as a free agent. The 25-year-old appeared in six games this season with the Dolphins, recording 21 tackles and two pass deflections. Needham wants to return to Miami in 2023, but only time will tell where he ends up next season.

Placed on IR
Miami placed Needham (Achilles) on injured reserve Wednesday.
Analysis: This move is merely transactional as Needham is expected to miss the remainder of the 2022 campaign after tearing his Achilles during Miami's Week 6 loss to the Vikings. In his absence, Noah Igbinoghene, Kader Kohou (oblique) and Justin Bethel are candidates for increased roles.

Suffers torn Achilles in Week 6
Needham tore his Achilles during Sunday's 24-16 loss to the Vikings, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Needham's 2022 campaign is now over following the injury suffered in Sunday's matchup versus Minnesota. Noah Igbinoghene, Kader Kohou (oblique) and Justin Bethel are now slated for increased opportunities moving forward behind the team's No. 1 cornerback Xavien Howard.

Won't return Sunday
Needham (ankle) was ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's game against the Vikings.
Analysis: Needham appeared to roll his ankle while tackling wide receiver Adam Thielen in the first half, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports. The 25-year-old was then carted off the field, leaving him sidelined for the remainder of this contest, according to Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald. Needham's next opportunity to play will come against the Steelers on Sunday, Oct. 23.

Looks good for opener
Needham (wrist) is not listed on the Dolphins' final injury report ahead of Sunday's Week 1 matchup with the Patriots, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Needham has been considered day-to-day due to a wrist injury. He followed up back-to-back limited practices this week with a full workload Friday, so he looks good to go assuming he avoids any setbacks.

Day-to-day with wrist injury
Needham (wrist) is considered day-to-day ahead of Saturday's preseason finale with the Eagles, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports.
Analysis: Needham suffered a left wrist injury in last week's preseason contest with the Raiders, but head coach Mike McDaniel said the injury is not particularly serious and the cornerback is day-to-day. Needham is expected to be a top depth option behind the likes of Xavien Howard and Byron Jones (ankle) in the Dolphins' secondary this season.

Suffers apparent hand injury
Needham left Saturday's preseason game against Las Vegas with an apparent left hand or wrist injury, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Needham started the game opposite Noah Igbinoghene, but he was forced to the locker room with the injury. Needham was spotted back on the sideline later in the contest without a wrap or cast, according to Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network, so it appears that he dodged a serious injury.

Signs tender
Needham signed a one-year, $3.99 million contract with the Dolphins on Monday, Mike Masala of USA Today reports.
Analysis: The Dolphins placed a second-round tender on Needham, keeping him around for the 2022 campaign. He stands to once again contribute as a slot cornerback, while also taking some reps at safety and on special teams if necessary.

Receives second-round tender
The Dolphins placed a second-round tender on Needham as a restricted free agent Friday, Daniel Oyefusi the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: The 2019 UDFA has seen significant playing time over his three years in Miami, so it's not a major surprise to see him garner a second-round tender. He totaled 59 tackles (48 solo), one sack, two interceptions and one touchdown in 17 games during 2021.

Leads team in tackles
Needham had eight tackles (six solo) during Sunday's 26-11 loss to the Bills.
Analysis: Needham played 67 percent of the defensive snaps while operating as Miami's No. 3 cornerback, but he ended up leading the defense in tackles. The 2020 UDFA has a stable role in the Dolphins' secondary but doesn't offer any fantasy potential.

Officially inks tender
Needham inked his ERFA tender with the Dolphins on Monday, NFL reporter Aaron Wilson reports.
Analysis: Needham managed to earn a starting role as an undrafted rookie last season, despite only being promoted from the practice squad mid-November. Further additions to the cornerback room in the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft likely will impede Needham's path to a similar role Year 2, but in any case he should get a chance to compete for a roster spot.

Solid rookie season
Needham notched 54 tackles (41 solo), one sack, 11 defended passes, two interceptions and one forced fumble across 12 games in 2019.
Analysis: Needman was promoted from Miami's practice squad in mid-October, when injuries to the secondary thrust him into the starting lineup. The UTEP product never gave back the reigns, and he ultimately concluded the 2019 campaign as a regular starter at cornerback. He's under contract for 2020, but it's worth noting that the Dolphins are a realistic contender to add to the secondary in the offseason.
