Joins Jaguars' practice squad
Jacksonville signed Oruwariye to its practice squad Monday.
Analysis: In a corresponding move, outside linebacker Derek Parish was cut from the Jaguars' practice squad. Jacksonville is dealing with multiple injuries in its defensive backfield, so it would not be too surprising to see Oruwariye elevated as soon as Thursday at New Orleans.

Suffers practice injury
Oruwariye (neck) suffered an injury during practice Wednesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Oruwariye -- who is a member of the Giants' practice squad -- was taken to a hospital after suffering a neck injury but was later released after the results of the evaluation and testing were negative. The 27-year-old has already been cleared to return to the team's facility though it's unknown how long he'll spend on the sideline.

Finds new home
Oruwariye signed a contract with the Giants on Thursday, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Oruwariye will get a new opportunity in New York after struggling to maintain a steady role in Detroit. The 27-year-old recorded 44 tackles (36 solo) and three passes defended in 2022, which were both the lowest totals he's posted in those categories since his rookie campaign in 2019. His addition will bolster the Giants' depth at cornerback.

Disappointing 2022 campaign
Oruwariye totaled 44 tackles, three pass breakups and one fumble recovery over 14 games in 2022.
Analysis: Oruwariye opened the season as a clear starter on the outside, but he became a much smaller part of the cornerback rotation after Detroit's midseason firing of its defensive backs coach. He ultimately topped 50 percent of the defensive snaps twice over the final nine games of the year while finishing it with three-year lows in practically every statistical category. Now entering the free-agent market at the end of the league year, Oruwariye may need to fight for a depth role somewhere other…read more

Healthy scratch Sunday
Oruwariye (coach's decision) is inactive Sunday against the Patriots.
Analysis: Oruwariye struggled last Sunday against the Seahawks, which may have led to this decision. Although who will step up to start opposite of Jeff Okudah is unclear, Will Harris and Mike Hughes are both likely candidates.

Logs full practice
Oruwariye (back) was a full participant during Thursday's practice.
Analysis: Oruwariye was sidelined during Detroit's 36-27 victory over the Commanders with a back injury, but his ability to practice in full Thursday suggests he's moved past the issue. In the team's season opener against Philadelphia, the 6-foot-2 cornerback tallied four tackles and one pass defensed. Expect Oruwariye to reclaim his starting spot at cornerback during Sunday's NFC North clash against the Vikings.

Out for Week 2
Oruwariye (back) is inactive Sunday against the Commanders.
Analysis: Oruwariye was unable to practice Friday after being limited Thursday with the injury. In his absence, Will Harris and Mike Hughes will be looking at increased opportunity.

Questionable for Week 2
Oruwariye (back) is questionable for Sunday's contest against the Commanders.
Analysis: Oruwariye landed on the injury report Thursday as a limited participant and didn't practice Friday, but he still has a shot to play in Week 2. If he's unable to suit up, Mike Hughes and Will Harris would be likely candidates for increased snaps versus Washington.

Limited in practice Thursday
Oruwariye (back) was listed as a limited participant on the Lions' injury report Thursday.
Analysis: Oruwariye picked up an unspecified back issue after not being listed with any injuries on Detroit's practice report Wednesday. The 26-year-old appeared to be working through some lower-back tightness, as he was spotted stretching during Thursday's sessions, Justin Rogers of The Detroit News reports. If Oruwairye, who recorded four tackles and one pass defended during his start in Week 1, is ultimately unable to suit up this Sunday, then cornerbacks Mike Hughes, Will Harris and Bobby Price…read more

Could land contract extension
Oruwariye is a candidate for a contract extension in the near future, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: The 2019 fifth-round draft pick hasn't missed many games relative to 2020 No. 3 overall pick Jeff Okudah (Achilles) since both defensive backs entered the NFL. Oruwariye is also coming off a highly productive 2021 campaign (57 tackles, six interceptions) as Detroit's No. 1 cornerback despite having played behind one of the least imposing defensive fronts in the league. While it could take a while for both sides to come to an agreement after Denzel Ward reset the cornerback market this…read more

Done for season
Oruwariye (thumb) was placed on IR on Saturday.
Analysis: Oruwariye injured his thumb last Sunday against the Cardinals on the final drive of the game. It was reported Friday that he could need season-ending surgery. Either way, with three weeks left in the season and a minimum three week stay on IR, Oruwariye will be ineligible to return this season. The third-year pro will now set his sights on being ready for the 2022 campaign.

Could need season-ending surgery
Oruwariye (thumb) won't play Sunday against Atlanta, Justin Rogers of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: According to Lions coach Dan Campbell, Oruwariye injured the ligament and bone in his thumb on the final drive against the Cardinals last week. While the cornerback is still being evaluated, surgery appears to be a possibility. Oruwariye leads Detroit in defensive snaps this season, so his absence would be a big blow to the team's secondary. Either Will Harris or Ifeatu Melifonwu figures to take Oruwariye's starting role.at left cornerback for Sunday's game and potentially beyond.

Unable to practice Wednesday
Oruwariye (thumb) didn't participate in Wednesday's practice session.
Analysis: Oruwariye recorded his sixth interception of the season during Sunday's win over the Cardinals but is managing a thumb injury ahead of Week 16. He'll likely need to practice in some form if he hopes to play Sunday against Atlanta.

Sixth interception of season
Oruwariye had five tackles (four solo), two pass deflections and one interception during Sunday's 30-12 win over the Cardinals.
Analysis: Oruwariye jumped a Kyler Murray pass intended for A.J. Green in the third quarter and returned it 50 yards to Arizona's six-yard line. On the ensuing play, Jared Goff found Jason Cabinda for a six-yard touchdown. Oruwariye continues to be a ball hawk, totaling 11 pass deflections and six interceptions across 14 appearances this season.

Cleared of hip injury
Oruwariye (hip) doesn't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against the Bengals, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
Analysis: Oruwariye progressed throughout the week, upgrading to full practice participation Friday after practicing on a limited basis Thursday and missing practice entirely Wednesday. He looked good enough Friday to shed his injury designation and should start at cornerback against the impressive Bengals receiving corps.

Limited for Wednesday's practice
Oruwariye (hip) practiced in limited fashion Thursday.
Analysis: Oruwariye seemingly picked up the hip injury in Sunday's loss to the Vikings and was held out of Wednesday's practice. However, his return to practice bodes well for his availability in Week 6 against Cincinnati. Through five games this season, Oruwariye has logged 20 total tackles, three passes defended and two interceptions.

Sitting out Wednesday
Oruwariye (hip) was a non-participant at Wednesday's practice, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
Analysis: Oruwariye recorded a season-high nine tackles during Sunday's loss to the Vikings while playing every defensive snap, but he apparently tweaked his hip at some point during the contest. The 25-year-old will likely need to practice in some form Thursday or Friday to have a chance of suiting up this weekend.

Posts season-high nine tackles
Oruwariye registered nine tackles (six solo) during Sunday's loss to the Vikings.
Analysis: Oruwariye has 19 tackles, two interceptions and two pass deflections across his last three contests. If the 25-year-old can maintain this type of production, he could become a consistent option in IDP leagues.

Second straight game with pick
Oruwariye totaled six tackles (four solo), one pass deflection and one interception during Sunday's 24-14 loss to the Bears.
Analysis: Oruwariye has picked off a pass in back-to-back games and has matched his rookie season total in just four games. Despite his playmaking ability and his constant presence on the field, the 25-year-old's fantasy upside is limited due to his lack of tackles.

Records pick against Ravens
Oruwariye recorded four tackles and an interception in Sunday's Week 3 loss to the Ravens.
Analysis: Oruwariye has not left the field with the Lions on defense this season and has been a key in its secondary. His interception of Lamar Jackson was his first pick of the season and fourth of his career. Despite his constant presence on the field, Oruwariye has managed only five tackles across three games to this point in the campaign.

Opens training camp with starters
"Nobody is really pushing" Oruwariye for first-team reps at outside cornerback, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: While Oruwariye was an every-down player for Detroit in 10 of 16 games last season, this news is notable given Detroit's offseason addition of cornerback Quinton Dunbar. While there is plenty of time for the tide to change before the end of training camp, Oruwariye seems poised to continue on as a key cog in the Lions' secondary this fall.

Makes second-year leap
Oruwariye recorded 53 tackles, seven pass breakups and one interception over 16 games in 2020.
Analysis: After topping 75 percent of the defensive snaps in three games as a rookie, Oruwariye played a much bigger role in 2020 and saw 100 percent of the snaps in nine of 16 games. As his playing time increased, so did his production, and the physical second-year pro ultimately finished with the most tackles and pass breakups amongst Lions cornerbacks. Still under contract for cheap through 2022, there's no question Oruwariye will be back as a key cog for the Detroit defense ahead of the 2021 campaign.

Good to go Thursday
Oruwariye (back) is not among the Lions' inactive players for Thursday's contest versus Houston.
Analysis: The cornerback developed a back issue that led to a limited practice Wednesday, but it's evidently not serious enough to keep him out of the Thanksgiving clash. Expect Oruwariye to again play a prominent role in the Detroit secondary; so far this season, he has registered 29 tackles (25 solo), one interception and six passes defensed in 10 games.

Activated by Detroit
Oruwariye has been activated from the Lions' reserve/COVID-19 list.
Analysis: The 24-year is now on track to rejoin the Lions' secondary, where he'll look to carve out a bigger role this season after logging 19 tackles and two picks in nine games with the team in 2019.

Placed on reserve/COVID-19 list
Oruwariye was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
Analysis: The designation means Oruwariye either tested positive for COVID-19 or was in contact with someone who tested positive. The depth cornerback played only nine games in his rookie season, but he did record two interceptions throughout the final seven weeks of the 2019 regular season.

Strong finish to rookie season
Oruwariye recorded 19 tackles, three pass breakups and two interceptions over nine games in 2019.
Analysis: Drafted in the fifth round out of Penn State, Oruwariye didn't see a single snap on defense until Week 11. However, when forced into an expanded role Week 12, the rookie didn't waste much time in recording his first career interception off Redskins QB Dwayne Haskins. While Rashaan Melvin's eventual return to health pushed Oruwariye back into a bit role for the last few weeks of the season, Oruwariye at least put a bow on his rookie season by picking off quarterback Aaron Rodgers on an errant…read more

Slated to start Thursday
Oruwariye is expected to start at cornerback Thursday against the Bears with Rashaan Melvin (ribs) ruled out.
Analysis: Melvin missed Week 12's loss to the Redskins, and Oruwariye recorded a 76-percent snap share in his place. The rookie fifth-rounder turned heads, recording five solo tackles, two pass breakups and an interception.

Ditches injury
Oruwariye (knee) practiced at full speed Wednesday.
Analysis: Oruwariye missed the last four games with this knee injury, but it appears he'll be ready to go Sunday against the Bears. The Lions' cornerback corps features plenty of experience, so the rookie fifth-round pick will stay in a special-teams role for now.

Unable to play Sunday
Oruwariye (knee) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Raiders.
Analysis: Oruwariye will sit out his fourth straight game and the seventh of the season, as he's been plagued by this knee injury. Once he's healthy, he could remain scratched from the lineup, and he tops out as a special-teams asset.

Officially questionable
Oruwariye (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game versus the Raiders.
Analysis: Oruwariye was limited at practice all week and is looking like a true game-time decision. The rookie is primarily a special teams contributor and depth corner, so his potential absence does not figure to have a significant impact on the Lions' defense. Final word on Oruwariye's status will come closer to kickoff.
