Tallies three touches in Week 12
Perine totaled one carry for 13 yards and hauled in both of his targets for 11 yards during Sunday's 30-27 victory against the Panthers.
Analysis: Perine continues to serve a purpose as a receiver out of the backfield for the Chiefs, and he logged a carry Sunday for the first time since Week 13. However, his work amounted to just three total touches for 24 yards, aside from the 104 yards he racked up as a kick returner. He could continue to serve a role in the return game moving forward, especially with Isiah Pacheco's (ankle) impending return presumably siphoning away more of Perine's backfield reps.

Claims two passes versus bills
Perine didn't tally a carry but reeled in two of his four targets for eight yards during Sunday's 30-21 defeat versus Buffalo.
Analysis: Perine nabbed double-digit snaps (11) again Sunday, but his string of eight consecutive games reaching that plateau may end in Week 12 with Isaiah Pacheco (ankle) primed to make his return to the gridiron. Assuming that occurs, Pacheco and Kareem Hunt should take hold of the vast majority of snaps, leaving Perine and Carson Steele with minimal opportunities moving forward.

Posts pair of grabs versus Broncos
Perine didn't tally a carry but reeled in both of his targets for 37 yards during Sunday's 16-14 victory over the Broncos.
Analysis: While Perine saw limited action (16 snaps) on offense, he made a notable play, scampering for 35 yards on one of his two receptions in a drive that ended up with a field goal. Even so, he's hardly producing enough weekly to warrant a look in fantasy leagues, especially with Isiah Pacheco on the cusp of a return to the playing field. Once Pacheco returns, Perine would presumably drop to third on the depth chart behind Pacheco and Kareem Hunt, further diminishing his fantasy value.

Finds end zone in win
Perine rushed once for 10 yards and caught four of five targets for 25 yards and a touchdown in Monday's 30-24 overtime win over the Buccaneers.
Analysis: Perine's trip to the end zone was his second score of the season, as the veteran running back continues to be the primary pass-catching option out of the Kansas City backfield. The 29-year-old played 24 of the Chiefs' 85 offensive snaps Monday, behind Kareem Hunt (49) and ahead of Carson Steele (14). Though Perine has not been able to get much going as a rusher this season, he has done most of his damage as a pass catcher. He has seen more opportunities through the air than on the ground, while…read more

Notches two receptions in Week 8
Perine hauled in both of his targets for 30 yards during Sunday's 27-20 win over Las Vegas.
Analysis: On a positive note, Perine compiled a pair of catches in the first half of the contest. On a negative one, he didn't tally another in the second half and finished the day with just 30 total yards. He also recovered a fumble by tight end Travis Kelce, but Perine saw the field on just 31 percent of offensive snaps. That still ranked second on the team to Kareem Hunt (58 percent) and well ahead of Carson Steele (11 percent), but Perine's minimal involvement leaves him off the fantasy radar in most…read more

Three touches in Week 7 win
Perine notched two rushes for six yards and hauled in his only target for 22 yards during Sunday's 28-18 victory versus the 49ers.
Analysis: Despite Clyde Edwards-Helaire's activation from injured reserve, Perine and Carson Steele remained on the active roster Sunday behind Kareem Hunt. Perine finished the day a distant second to Hunt's 45 snaps with 15 and outpaced Steele by just one. While his continued inclusion in the game plan is encouraging, he's unlikely to see enough action weekly to warrant a roster spot in most fantasy leagues.

Tallies one touch on MNF
Perine did not receive a carry but gathered in one of his two targets for 24 yards during Monday's 26-13 victory versus the Saints.
Analysis: Perine played the second-most snaps (21) among the Chiefs' backs in Monday's contest, but that was still less than half of Kareem Hunt's 53 snaps and just five more than Carson Steele, who tallied four more touches. Perine sees some work on passing downs, but that could be short-lived, with Clyde Edwards-Helaire potentially returning after the bye week.

Totals five carries versus Saints
Perine compiled five carries for 14 yards and one touchdown during Sunday's 17-10 win versus the Chargers.
Analysis: An early Carson Steele fumble likely shifted the workloads in the running back room Sunday, resulting in Kareem Hunt leading the way with 14 carries and Perine claiming five. Even if Steele has played his way out of some snaps, Hunt remains ahead of Perine in the pecking order, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire (illness) is expected back in Week 5, so there isn't a ton to like about Perine's fantasy prospects moving forward.

Gets nine touches with Pacheco hurt
Perine rushed six times for 25 yards while catching three of four targets for 15 yards in Sunday's 22-17 win over the Falcons.
Analysis: Perine played second fiddle to Carson Steele (17 carries for 72 yards) in Kansas City's first game without Isiah Pacheco (fibula), who is expected to be out for six-to-eight weeks. While Perine has carved out some utility in passing situations, he remains an afterthought in the game plan, and Kansas City's backfield could get more crowded in the coming weeks with Kareem Hunt having joined the practice squad Tuesday and Clyde Edwards-Helaire (illness) eligible to come off the…read more

Opportunities opening up
Perine played nine of Kansas City's 65 offensive snaps and finished with one reception for three yards on his lone target in Sunday's 26-25 win over the Bengals.
Analysis: Perine has now logged single-digit snap counts in each of his first two games with Kansas City, but he could be headed for more playing time with Isiah Pacheco (fibula/ankle) likely to land on injured reserve after getting hurt in Sunday's win, per Charles Goldman of AToZSports.com. Undrafted rookie Carson Steele (seven carries for 24 yards in Week 2) could be first in line for early-down work, but Perine should at least settle in as the team's preferred option on passing downs. Since Steele…read more

Sparsely plays in Kansas City debut
Perine secured one of two targets for 10 yards during Thursday's 27-20 win over the Ravens. He did not log a rushing attempt.
Analysis: Perine, who signed with the Chiefs just over a week and a half ago, played eight offensive snaps in his team debut, an indication that he hasn't yet fully acclimated to coach Andy Reid's offensive scheme. Still, the one target Perine failed to haul in seemed like a hint of better things to come. If he'd secured that short dump-off from Patrick Mahomes in the third quarter, there was only open field standing between Perine and a touchdown. The pass-catching specialist will work to increase his…read more

Set for role behind Pacheco
As Thursday night's game against the Ravens approaches, Perine is in line to work in a complementary role behind lead back Isiah Pacheco, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Though Perine only signed with the Chiefs this past Wednesday, he should be in the mix for work behind Pacheco out of the gate this season along with rookie Carson Steele, given that Clyde Edwards-Helaire has been placed on the reserve/non-football illness list and will miss at least four games. It remains to be seen what sort of workload Perine will see versus Baltimore, but in the coming weeks the 28-year-old may be able to garner enough touches to merit lineup consideration in deeper formats.

Will suit up Week 1
Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Sunday that Perine will be available for the team's regular-season opener versus Baltimore on Thursday, Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com reports.
Analysis: Perine didn't sign with the Chiefs until this past Wednesday, but that won't prevent him from being able to play in Kansas City's first game of the campaign. The veteran running back may not be fully up to speed on the playbook and thus could be held to limited work, and even when he's fully familiar with the team's system it's not clear how much work he'll log behind starting running back Isiah Pacheco. In addition to Perine, Kansas City's backup RBs include Clyde Edwards-Helaire (illness) and…read more

Could play in Week 1
GM Brett Veach relayed Thursday that he hopes Perine will be able to play in next week's season opener against the Ravens, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The Chiefs kick off their 2024 campaign next Thursday, which shortens the amount of time the looming addition will have to get up to speed with the team's offense ahead of Week 1. However, as the season progresses it's plausible that Perine will have a chance to earn a key complementary role for his new team behind top back Isiah Pacheco.

Lands with Kansas City
Perine agreed to a contract with Kansas City on Wednesday, Jordan Schultz of BleacherReport.com reports.
Analysis: Perine, who was released as one of Denver's roster cuts Tuesday, is a proven pass catcher and now lands in what projects to be one of the NFL's top-scoring offenses. Isiah Pacheco is firmly established atop the Chiefs' depth chart, but Clyde Edwards-Helaire (illness) and Carson Steele are surmountable competition for a depth role at running back. Perine secured a career-high 50 of 56 passes for 455 yards across 17 regular-season games with the Broncos last season, in addition to 53 carries for…read more

Perine was released by the Broncos on Tuesday.
Analysis: It was reported Monday that the Broncos planned to release Perine if they were unable to trade him, and now the running back will have an opportunity to secure a depth role elsewhere. Chances are, the 28-year-old will find a new team in short order, though it remains to be seen if he'll land in a spot that will present him with a clear path to steady backfield touches.

In line to be cut
The Broncos are slated to release or trade Perine prior to Tuesday's roster cuts deadline, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Perine is the odd man out in Denver's backfield, with all of Javonte Williams, Jaleel McLaughlin and Audric Estime having made strong cases for roles this preseason. The eight-year veteran could garner some interest on the trade market for teams in need of proven depth, especially given his skills in pass protection and as a receiver. As a result of Perine's non-guaranteed $3 million salary this season, however, teams could opt to simply wait for his release by the Broncos and then negotiate…read more

Handles five carries
Perine rushed five times for 16 yards and caught one of his two targets for five yards in Sunday's 27-2 preseason win over the Packers.
Analysis: After failing to record a single rush or reception in the Broncos' first preseason game, Perine touched the ball on six of his 11 offensive snaps in the contest. The veteran running back remains in a crowded running back room, competing with presumed starter Javonte Williams, Jaleel McLaughlin and Audric Estime for playing time in the 2024 campaign. Targeted once in win
Perine failed to record a carry or reel in his lone target in Sunday's 34-30 preseason win over the Colts.
Analysis: Perine was a non-factor in Denver's first preseason game, playing just 16 percent of the team's offensive snaps in the contest. The veteran did, however, bobble his one target right into an interception for the Colts. Heading into training camp, there was speculation that the 28-year-old could end up a cap casualty, as he is competing for a roster spot in a crowded running back room with Javonte Williams, Jaleel McLaughlin and rookie Audric Estime. Potential cap casualty
Perine is competing for a role in Denver's backfield but could end up being a cap casualty if the Broncos are satisfied with their reserve options behind starter Javonte Williams, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Perine has a non-guaranteed $3 million salary for the second season of his two-year contract. That's a reasonable number for someone who offers good pass protection and reliable hands while also playing special teams, but the Broncos could nonetheless cut or trade Perine if they feel comfortable with Jaleel McLaughlin, Blake Watson or Tyler Badie as a passing-down specialist. Minimal production in season finale
Perine carried three times for seven yards and caught three of four targets for 23 yards in Sunday's 27-14 loss to to Raiders.
Analysis: Perine played 38 percent of the Broncos' offensive snaps in the contest, placing him behind starter Javonte Williams (41) but ahead of Jaleel McLaughlin (nine), the latter of whom exited early with a head injury. After signing a two-year, $7.5 million deal with Denver last spring, Perine finished his first season in Denver with 53 carries for 238 yards and a touchdown and a career-high 50 receptions for 455 yards. Handles four carries
Perine rushed four times for 10 yards and caught both of his targets for 16 yards in Sunday's 16-9 win over the Chargers.
Analysis: Perine operated as the Broncos' No. 3 running back Sunday, playing just 17 of Denver's 69 offensive snaps. Meanwhile, fellow running backs Javonte Williams and Jaleel McLaughlin were on the field for 31 and 19 snaps, respectively. Perine's 26 total yards from scrimmage was his lowest total since Week 13, and it appears he has taken a backseat to the rookie McLaughlin in the backfield pecking order. Five touches in loss
Perine rushed once for two yards and caught four of five targets for 27 yards in Sunday's 26-23 loss to the Patriots.
Analysis: He played 24 of Denver's 69 offensive snaps while starter Javonte Williams was on the field for 27 snaps. Despite handling a near-even split in snaps with Williams, Perine didn't make much of an impact. The 28-year-old RB should at least have a better chance of turning a modest workload into useful fantasy numbers during the Week 17 matchup against a vulnerable Chargers defense.

Quiet in loss
Perine rushed six times for 37 yards and caught his lone target for 11 yards in Saturday's 42-17 loss to the Lions.
Analysis: Perine operated as the primary backup to Javonte Williams on Saturday, playing 39 percent of the Broncos' offensive snaps while Williams handled a 48 percent snap share. The former Bengal was the more efficient back, as Williams recorded 20 yards on 14 touches, but Perine's slightly elevated usage in Week 15 was likely due to game script, as the Broncos were playing from behind throughout the game. The veteran will be hard to trust for fantasy purposes as long as Williams can stay healthy. The…read more

In clear for Saturday's game
Perine (knee) doesn't have a game status for Saturday's matchup with the Lions after he was a full participant in Thursday's practice, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Analysis: After being listed as a full participant Tuesday on the Broncos' first Week 15 injury report, Perine was downgraded to a non-participant Wednesday, but his return to full activity Thursday suggests his absence from practice was maintenance-related. Perine (knee/rest) didn't practice Wednesday.
Analysis: Perine was estimated as a full practice participant Tuesday, but was deemed a non-participant a day later. Given that his listed absence was attributed to a combination of knee/rest, chances are Perine will be back in practice in some fashion Thursday. A return to full participation would pave the way for the running back to approach Saturday's game against the Lions minus an injury designation.

Five catches in win
Perine (knee) rushed twice for eight yards and caught all five of his targets for 36 yards in Sunday's 24-7 win over the Chargers.
Analysis: Perine finished second behind Courtland Sutton (62) in receiving yards. He handled his usual role in the backfield on passing situations, suggesting that the knee injury that kept Perine out of Friday's practice isn't hampering him any longer. Perine has caught multiple passes in all but one game for the Broncos heading into a Week 15 trip to Detroit.

Minimal involvement in Week 13
Perine rushed once for one yard and caught both of his targets for five yards in Sunday's 22-17 loss to the Texans.
Analysis: Perine's quiet performance Sunday came on day when the Broncos offense took a step back from their recent stretch of success. Perine played just 12 of Denver's 60 offensive snaps, behind Javonte Williams (39) and ahead of Jaleel McLaughlin (9). Scores first TD in 2023

Analysis: Perine finished with one carry for the third consecutive week, but it was his work as a receiver that made an impact in the box score. The veteran backup racked up more than half of his production on the Broncos' game-winning touchdown drive in the closing moments of Sunday's win. Sees work as pass catcher
Perine rushed the ball one time for eight yards in Monday's 24-22 win over the Bills. He added three receptions for 35 yards.
Analysis: Perine's role as a rusher remained minimal, as he now has two or fewer rushes in four consecutive games. Instead, he was primarily on the field in passing scenarios and managed to finish tied for second on the team in receiving yards. Analysis: With Javonte Williams (18 snaps/10 carries) back in action after a one-game absence Thursday and Jaleel McLaughlin (21 snaps/seven carries) also factoring in, Perine saw a reduced role in Week 6 en route to recording zero carries, two catches for 16 yards, and a fumble late in the game. Per Troy Renck of Denver 7 News, Perine may have suffered a leg or knee injury during the contest, so the running back's status will be something to monitor ahead of Denver's Oct. 22 matchup against Green Bay.

Two catches Thursday
Perine may have suffered a leg or knee injury during Thursday's 19-8 loss to the Chiefs, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
Analysis: Perine fumbled on Denver's final offensive play of the game, and he presumably suffered the injury during that sequence. The severity of the issue isn't clear, but he'll have nine days to rest and recover before the Broncos square off against Green Bay in Week 7. Perine didn't see a rushing attempt Thursday, though he did have two catches for 16 yards.

Effective as receiver Sunday
Perine rushed six times for 22 yards while catching four of five targets for 73 yards in Sunday's 31-21 loss to the Jets.
Analysis: Perine wound up splitting time with undrafted rookie Jaleel McLaughlin in place of Javonte Williams (quadriceps) on Sunday, receiving 10 combined touches compared to the latter's 12. Both players were productive when called upon, with Perine doing most of his damage as a receiver out of the backfield. McLaughlin wound up with the better fantasy line by scoring the only touchdown between the two, and he was also the first back deployed by Denver in the loss. That said, Perine should maintain his…read more

In line for added work Sunday
Perine is expected to start Sunday against the Jets, with Javonte Williams (quadriceps) inactive for the contest, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Analysis: In last weekend's win over the Bears -- a contest in which Williams played just eight snaps on offense -- Perine logged 22 snaps with six carries for 12 yards with two catches for 23 yards while rookie Jaleel McLaughlin took 16 snaps and carried seven times for 72 yards with three catches for 32 yards and a touchdown. Quiet despite Williams' injury
Perine rushed six times for 12 yards and caught both of his targets for 23 yards in Sunday's 31-28 win over Chicago.
Analysis: Javonte Williams (hip) exited after two drives, but Jaleel McLaughlin produced 104 scrimmage yards and a receiving touchdown on 10 touches while Perine failed to find running room. Perine has just 161 scrimmage yards on 18 carries and 13 targets through four games with Denver, but if Williams is unable to play in Week 5 against the Jets, both Perine and McLaughlin could be in line for additional opportunities.

Minimal involvement in loss
Perine rushed three times for nine yards and secured two of his three targets for 15 yards in Sunday's 70-20 loss to the Dolphins.
Analysis: Perine had another disappointing outing Sunday as the Broncos fell to the Dolphins in a blowout loss. The veteran played fewer offensive snaps (19) than Javonte Williams (26), but both backs finished with two grabs on three targets in the passing game. As the season moves on, it's likely that Williams will continue to see the majority of the work out of the backfield, as the second-year rusher handled 11 carries on the ground compared to Perine's three. Quiet in loss
Perine carried once for four yards and secured three of his four targets for 20 yards in Sunday's 35-33 loss to the Commanders.
Analysis: Despite leading all Denver running backs in offensive snaps, Perine was unable to get much going for fantasy purposes. The veteran's 50 percent snap share was just over that of teammate Javonte Williams, who reached a 45 percent snap share in the contest. With that said, Williams was much more involved in the game plan with 12 carries and three targets. Efficient on 12 touches in defeat
Perine rushed eight times for 41 yards and secured all four targets for 37 yards in the Broncos' 17-16 loss to the Raiders on Sunday.
Analysis: Perine served as an ideal complement to Javonte Williams, who was playing in his first regular-season game since his season-ending knee injury in Week 4 of 2022. While Williams' 13 carries Sunday might be a bit misleading given head coach Sean Payton had noted his lead back would be on a "minutes limit" in the contest, Perine's workload was nevertheless encouraging for the time being. Resumes backup role
Perine rushed three times for 22 yards and no receptions in Saturday's preseason loss to San Francisco.
Analysis: Perine was the second running back to enter Saturday's contest following the healthy return of Javonte Williams (knee). The latter saw the bulk of action on Denver's opening drive, confirming Williams' status as lead back. The 27-year-old should still receive touches as a backup (similar to his time in Cincinnati), especially early in the season while the team eases Williams back into action. Perine rushed for 26 yards on six attempts and did not haul in his lone target in Friday's preseason opener against Arizona.
Analysis: Perine got the start with Javonte Williams (knee) still being eased back into action after missing most of last season with a torn ACL. Head coach Sean Payton insists that Williams can and will see the field this preseason, which would be an impressive feat considering how severe knee injuries can be to return from without issue, especially at the running back position. No concern with thumb injury
Perine was diagnosed with a bruised thumb after his early exit from practice Wednesday, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
Analysis: Even a relatively severe thumb injury wouldn't be too worrisome at this time of the year with nearly three months to recover before Week 1. The real concern in the Denver backfield is Javonte Williams' ongoing rehab from ACL and LCL tears, though coach Sean Payton reiterated Thursday that he's "optimistic" about the 23-year-old's progress. Hurts thumb Wednesday
Broncos head coach Sean Payton said Wednesday that Perine made an early exit from practice to have his thumb evaluated, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
Analysis: After emerging as a viable backup in Cincinnati from 2020 through 2022 -- he tallied 4.4 yards per carry and an 80.9 percent catch rate -- Perine linked up with Denver this offseason on a two-year, $7.5 million contract. In the event that Javonte Williams (knee) doesn't recover from the ACL and LCL tears by Week 1, Perine would have a prime opportunity to produce out of the Broncos backfield. Analysis: Perine was signed by the Broncos this offseason due to the uncertainty of starter Javonte Williams' availability heading into the 2023 campaign. Though Denver appears to be optimistic that Williams could be ready for the start of training camp, it seems Perine is viewed by the Broncos coaching staff as more than just a backup plan. Scores in possible Cincy finale
Perine rushed five times for 22 yards and a touchdown while catching three of four targets for four yards in Sunday's 23-20 AFC Championship Game loss to the Chiefs.
Analysis: Joe Burrow led the Bengals with 30 rushing yards on four attempts, but Perine was more effective than Joe Mixon, who mustered only 19 yards on eight carries. Perine tied the score at 20-20 with a two-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter. Limited work in win
Perine had four carries for three yards and three catches for 19 yards on four targets in Saturday's win over the Patriots.
Analysis: Perine took a back seat to Joe Mixon after carrying a heavier workload in previous games. Is this a harbinger of the workload split in weeks to come, or just how it worked out this week? The Bengals jumped out to a big lead early, which might have dictated their usage between the two backs.

Perine had seven carries for 24 yards and one reception for no gain in Sunday's 34-23 win over the Buccaneers.
Analysis: In Joe Mixon's second game back from a two-game absence due to a concussion, Perine saw 38 percent of Cincinnati's offensive snaps compared to the latter's 64 percent. Perine ultimately received half as many touches compared to his backfield mate. This week, New England's stout run defense doesn't provide a particularly appetizing matchup in Week 16.

Analysis: According to Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic, head coach Zac Taylor already confirmed Wednesday that Mixon would reclaim the starting role, even though Perine amassed 248 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown on 48 touches (38 carries, 10 catches) over the previous two weeks while helping the Bengals knock off likely playoff teams in the Titans and Chiefs. About the only thing he didn't do was get into the end zone, instead seeing Chris Evans record the go-ahead receiving touchdown in the fourth quarter. Set to fill in for Mixon
With Joe Mixon (concussion) inactive for Sunday's game against the Chiefs, Perine is in line to see an expanded role in the Bengals' Week 13 backfield.
Analysis: While Mixon was sidelined in last weekend's 20-16 win over the Titans, Perine logged 17 carries for 58 yards and a TD to go along with four catches (on seven targets) for 35 yards. This time around, Perine figures to log the bulk of the Bengals' backfield touches once again, with Trayveon Williams and Chris Evans on hand in reserve, a context that gives Perine some Week 13 fantasy lineup utility.

Analysis: Mixon still has a few more hours to potentially gain clearance from an independent neurologist, but after he was able to practice only on a limited basis this week, the Bengals may not be keen on handing him his typical workload even if he defies the odds and plays Sunday. With that in mind, Perine looks in store for a three-down role for the second game in a row, after he played 80 percent of the snaps on offense in last week's 20-16 win over the Titans. Analysis: As usual, Perine is on track to handle No. 2 duties out of the backfield behind three-down workhorse Joe Mixon. Perine would be next in line to start for the Bengals at running back if Joe Mixon (ankle) can't go in Week 16.
Analysis: Mixon twice came off the field due to an ankle injury last Sunday but was on for the last snap, which was a kneel-down. Perine wound up with four carries for 30 yards and two catches on two targets for 13 yards, his usual workload over the last few weeks. The Bengals said that they'd limit Mixon's workload in practice to start the week, which would provide Perine with more practice reps, but that won't necessarily translate to touches Sunday against the Ravens.

Heavily involved in passing game
Perine carried four times for 11 yards and caught four of five targets for 22 yards during Sunday's 26-23 overtime loss to the 49ers.
Analysis: Perine was the primary backup behind Joe Mixon once again, but that label offers little fantasy potential, as Mixon is a true bell cow back for the Bengals. The fifth-year pro's involvement in the passing game continues to be a bright spot, but he likely only offers fantasy value as a handcuff to Mixon.

Minimal workload in loss
Perine carried five times for 36 yards and caught both of his targets for five yards in Sunday's 41-22 loss to the Chargers.
Analysis: With Joe Mixon operating as a true bell cow back for the Bengals, little work was left over for Perine. Though he offers little fantasy value in his present role, Perine makes sense as a handcuff for Mixon's fantasy managers in the event the latter misses time over the final five weeks of the regular season.

Tiny workload
Perine had just three carries and one catch on 10 snaps despite the Bengals benching their offensive starters for most of the fourth quarter in their blowout win over the Steelers.
Analysis: Teammate Joe Mixon is a full-on bell-cow back right now, so Perine's opportunities to produce are extremely limited.

Nine offensive snaps
Perine was limited to nine offensive snaps in the Week 11 win over the Raiders. He had two carries for three yards along with three catches for 18 yards.
Analysis: Joe Mixon is fully healthy again and is back to being the Bengals' bell-cow running back. Thus, Perine has been relegated to traditional backup duties, even when the Bengals were ahead most of the game.

Resurfaces in running attack
Perine carried five times for 20 yards and caught two of three targets for 17 yards Sunday in the Bengals' 41-16 loss to the Browns.
Analysis: After Joe Mixon handled all the running-back carries in the Week 8 loss to the Jets, Perine reentered the picture Week 9, though three of his totes came with fewer than five minutes remaining while the Browns sat on a 25-point lead. With that in mind, Perine's usage on the ground looks like it could take a hit or disappear entirely in more competitive contests, though the 26-year-old still may have an edge on Mixon for work on obvious passing downs. Minimal usage in loss
Perine played only 14 offensive snaps in a Week 8 loss to the Jets without netting a carry, but he did catch both his targets for 16 yards.
Analysis: This was a bit of a surprise, given Perine's usage the previous week against the Ravens and the absence of Chris Evans against the Jets. It's a sign that the Bengals believe Joe Mixon's ankle is fully healed, as this was the kind of workload Perine was seeing prior to Mixon's injury.

Could split time with Mixon
Perine is expected to split snaps and touches out of the backfield with starter Joe Mixon is Sunday's game against the Jets, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Analysis: After a one-game absence following a positive COVID-19 test, Perine impressed in the Week 7 upset of Baltimore while playing 48 percent of the offensive snaps. The Oklahoma product carried 11 times for 52 yards and a touchdown while turning his lone target into a 23-yard reception, potentially earning himself another sizable share of work behind Mixon in Week 8. Though the Bengals' 24-point margin of victory against the Ravens likely had a hand in Perine seeing extra reps, a similar game script…read more

Scores long TD late
Perine rushed 11 times for 52 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 41-17 win over the Ravens.
Analysis: Perine turned in his best performance of the season in this one, but his final stat line may be deceiving. The veteran back received a huge uptick in touches -- 11 to starter Joe Mixon's 12 -- due to the blowout nature of the contest in the fourth quarter. Not to take anything away from his production, but the majority of his positive gains came on a 46-yard touchdown scamper late in the final period. The big play may earn Perine a few more looks next week against the Jets, but fantasy managers…read more

Week 7 role unclear
Cincinnati head coach Zac Taylor confirmed Perine will be available for Sunday's game against the Ravens, but the running back won't have a set role for the Week 7 matchup, Geoff Hobson of the Bengals' official site reports.
Analysis: After a week-long stint on the reserve/COVID-19 list, Perine returned to practice Thursday and looks to be back to full speed. Though Perine had served as the clear No. 2 back behind starter Joe Mixon through the first five games, his absence in the Week 6 win over the Lions allowed rookie Chris Evans to see his largest role to date. Evans was efficient with his 16 snaps (four carries for 18 yards, three receptions for 49 yards and a touchdown), and his strong showing may have allowed him to…read more

Returns from COVID list
The Bengals reinstated Perine (illness) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday.
Analysis: Perine had resided on the list since Oct. 11 after testing positive for the virus. Now that he's completed a quarantine and has cleared all health and safety protocols, Perine should be ready to go for Sunday's game against the Ravens. Chris Evans served as the top backup to Joe Mixon in last week's win over Detroit, but Perine could reclaim the No. 2 role Week 7, especially after Evans was limited in practice Wednesday with a hamstring injury.

Not playing Sunday
Perine was not activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list and thus will not be eligible to play Sunday against the Lions.
Analysis: Perine needed to be activated off the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday in order to have a shot at playing. Instead the team opted to elevate Trayveon Williams from the practice squad with the intention of him acting as Joe Mixon's (ankle) primary backup. Perine saw a season-high 11 carries in the Week 5 loss to the Packers, but that workload was largely due to Mixon's ankle sprain and is not expected to translate to Williams with Mixon on the mend.

Tests positive for virus
Perine's placement on the reserve/COVID-19 list earlier Monday was the result of a positive test, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Since Perine was deactivated as a result of a positive test rather than through contact-tracing reasons, he may not clear the NFL's COVID-19 protocol ahead of the Bengals' next game Sunday in Detroit. The development is a less-than-ideal one for the Bengals, given that top back Joe Mixon was able to handle only a limited role in the Week 5 loss to the Packers while managing an ankle injury. While Mixon's workload was restricted, Perine picked up a season-high 11 carries and gained 59 yards. He…read more

Placed on COVID-19 list
Perine was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday.
Analysis: Perine racked up 73 yards from scrimmage and reached the end zone in Sunday's overtime loss to the Packers, but he'll have to spend some time away from the team after being placed on the COVID-19 list. It's not yet clear whether he's tested positive for the virus or whether he's considered a close contact, and the Bengals haven't revealed when the 26-year-old will be able to return.

Good in expanded role
Perine rushed 11 times for 59 yards and caught four of five targets for 24 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 25-22 overtime loss to the Packers.
Analysis: Perine opened the scoring with a four-yard touchdown reception and proceeded to lead Cincinnati's backfield despite starter Joe Mixon playing through an ankle injury. Whereas Mixon managed 35 scrimmage yards and a score from his 11 touches, Perine comfortably set season highs across the board, taking advantage of his newfound opportunity. Although it's possible Mixon gets closer to full health to command a larger workload in Week 6 versus the winless Lions, Perine's performance Sunday could…read more

Mixon back in the mix
Perine will potentially have to share the backfield with Joe Mixon (ankle) on Sunday against the Packers, as Mixon is active for the contest.
Analysis: Perine was at one point thought to have a larger role in Week 5, as Mixon suffered an ankle injury last week against Jacksonville and didn't log a single practice as a result. That ultimately won't prevent Mixon from taking the field, but Ian Rapoport of NFL Network did note early Sunday morning that the team's typical RB1 "won't be at 100 percent." Perine has yet to see more than 24 percent of the snap share in any single game this season, but that could be headed for an increase Sunday if…read more

More playing time this week?
Perine had three carries for seven yards and one catch for 15 yards Week 4 against the Jaguars, but he's next in line for playing time should Joe Mixon's low-ankle sprain sideline him Week 5.
Analysis: Most of Perine's playing time (13 offensive snaps) came on the Bengals' final drive Thursday night. Even if Mixon plays this week, Perine probably will carry more than his usual load.

Limited opportunities
Perine played nine offensive snaps in Sunday's win over the Steelers, netting one carry and one catch for a total of seven yards.
Analysis: So far the Bengals have held firm that Joe Mixon is a workhorse back, and the tiny remainder has been split between Perine and Chris Evans. It'll take an injury to Mixon for Perine to be a factor.

Plays three offensive snaps
Perine failed to secure his one target and did not record a single rushing attempt in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Bears.
Analysis: Perine was a non-factor, playing only three snaps on offense. Joe Mixon, on the other hand, continues to be the focal point of the running game while playing 46 offensive snaps in the contest. With such little usage, Perine remains far off the fantasy radar. The 26-year-old would need an injury to Mixon to create a path to fantasy relevance.

Limited behind Mixon
Perine had five carries for 22 yards and one catch for seven yards in Sunday's overtime win over the Vikings.
Analysis: Perine was limited to 15 offensive snaps, compared to 54 for Joe Mixon. The good news for Perine is that he's clearly the top backup to Mixon, as teammate Chris Evans didn't get any snaps on offense. The bad news is that the Bengals followed through on their intent to make Mixon a workhorse.

Limited workload Saturday
Perine gained five yards on three carries in Saturday's preseason win over the Buccaneers.
Analysis: The 25-year-old handled only the Bengals' second possession after Joe Mixon was on the field for the first, and the fact that Perine didn't see more snaps is a good sign he's locked into the No. 2 spot on the depth chart. Perine had a big finish to 2020 but would need another Mixon injury to see significant touches during the regular season.

Set up for role behind Mixon
Perine should have a role in the Cincinnati offense this season, according to Jay Morrison of The Athletic.
Analysis: Bengals OC Brian Callahan has made it clear he wants to use Joe Mixon more, but the team will still need a backup RB to take some snaps, and for the first time in years it won't be passing-down specialist Giovani Bernard (now with Tampa Bay). Perine is much different from Bernard, of course, offering size and power rather than agility and receiving skills. Perine re-signed Wednesday with the Bengals on a two-year deal, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Perine proved himself as a capable depth piece last season, averaging 4.8 yards per carry while working behind Giovani Bernard after Joe Mixon went down with a foot injury. He'll likely handle a similar role going forward, with the potential opportunity to compete against Bernard for the top backup spot this offseason.

Perine finished the 2020 season with nine carries for 51 yards in a Week 17 loss against the Ravens. He ended the season with 63 carries for 301 yards and three touchdowns, along with 11 catches for 66 yards.
Analysis: Perine isn't especially fast or shifty, but he proved capable as the backup to Giovani Bernard after Joe Mixon got hurt. Perine is a free agent this offseason.

Finds end zone twice
Perine rushed the ball 13 times for 95 yards and two touchdowns in Week 16 against the Texans. He added four receptions for 41 yards.
Analysis: Perine was out-carried 16-13 by Giovani Bernard, but he made better use of his chances. The splash play of his performance came on the Bengals' fourth offensive play of the second half, when he broke a number of tackles and rumbled 46 yards for a touchdown. Three drives later, Perine made his second trip to the end zone on three-yard plunge. Entering the week, Perine had failed to command more than 10 carries in any contest and could see his volume decrease in Week 17 against the Ravens.

Limited to four carries
Perine rushed four times for 14 yards in the Bengals' 27-17 win over the Steelers on Monday night.
Analysis: Perine had tied a season high with 10 carries in Week 14 against the Cowboys, but that workload was partly a byproduct of an early Giovani Bernard fumble that earned the veteran a benching. However, coach Zac Taylor gave Bernard ample opportunity to redeem himself Monday night in the form of 25 carries, which led to Perine reverting to a clear backup role. Perine carried the ball 10 times for 32 yards in Week 14 against the Cowboys. He added two receptions for nine yards.
Analysis: Perine worked behind both Giovani Bernard and Trayveon Williams, but he got plenty of work after both fumbled early in the game. He wasn't particularly effective, averaging only 3.2 yards per carry. On the other hand, he logged the team's longest rush of the game, which went for 11 yards. Perine had three carries for seven yards during Sunday's 19-7 loss to the Dolphins.
Analysis: The 25-year-old played 17 of 52 offensive snaps while Giovani Bernard handled 14 touches in the defeat. The Bengals previously indicated they expect Joe Mixon (foot) to be back from injured reserve this week, which would push Perine further down the depth chart.

Perine rushed five times for 19 yards and caught one of two targets for two yards in Sunday's 20-9 loss to Washington.
Analysis: Perine actually had one more rushing yard on four fewer carries than an ineffective Giovani Bernard, but Bernard handily outperformed Perine as a pass-catcher out of the backfield and should continue to see the majority of backfield reps in Joe Mixon's (foot) absence. With Mixon on IR, Perine should maintain change-of-pace duties behind Bernard against the Giants in Week 12.

Set for top backup role Week 11
Perine is expected to serve as the top backup to Giovani Bernard in the Bengals' game Sunday at Washington after head coach Zac Taylor confirmed Joe Mixon (foot) wouldn't play, Jay Morrison of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Mixon had already missed the Bengals' previous three games, but Perine only saw notable volume behind Bernard in the last two contests, garnering 11 and eight touches in Weeks 8 and 10, respectively. Even that modest level of usage may be somewhat unreliable going forward should Mixon miss more time, as Perine only received four touches through the first three quarters of last week's 36-10 loss to the Steelers before getting more work in the final 15 minutes of the blowout while Bernard rested.…read more

Perine carried the ball seven times for 48 yards in Week 10 against the Steelers. He added one reception for seven yards.
Analysis: Perine's eight total touches lagged behind Giovani Bernard's 12, but he managed to work more efficiently with his opportunities. He played a key role in the Bengals' lone drive that ended with a touchdown, ripping off a run of 14 yards and a reception that gained an additional seven yards. Gio Bernard also acquitted himself quite well and scored touchdowns of his own, though Perine remained a factor in the running game throughout the contest. Perine began the 2019 campaign with the Bengals but played only five offensive snaps in six games before being let go, and he eventually signed with the Dolphins.
