Career-high 88 tackles in Year 4
Maye recorded a team-high 10 tackles (seven solo) and a tackle for loss in Sunday's season finale against the Patriots, bringing his season total to a career-best 88 tackles.
Analysis: Only linebacker Neville Hewitt (134) finished with more tackles, and Maye also contributed two interceptions, two sacks and 11 passes defensed. The safety was one of the few consistent positive performers on a team that finished 2-14, so Maye will likely be extended by the Jets, as the 2017 second-round pick's rookie contract has expired.

Ten tackles in loss
Maye finished with 10 tackles (five solo) in Sunday's 18-10 loss to the Bills.
Analysis: Maye was a tackling machine in both games against the Bills this season, racking up 10 tackles in each matchup. The safety has added 24 tackles over the five games in between, giving him a total of 44 heading into a Week 8 date with the Chiefs.

Spectacular interception in loss
Maye had two tackles, an interception and a pass defensed in Sunday's 24-0 loss to Miami.
Analysis: Maye's highlight-reel interception gave Jets fans something to cheer about in what was otherwise another dismal performance from the league's last winless team. He got inside position on the receiver to defend the pass, then pinned the ball against his backside on the way down before finally securing it behind his back after it started roll out of his hand. Maye has been one of the few bright spots for New York, with 34 tackles, two sacks, an interception and four passes defensed heading into a…read more

Another solid effort
Maye recorded eight tackles (four solo) in Sunday's 36-7 loss to the Colts.
Analysis: Maye has been one of the few bright spots for the 0-3 Jets. The 27-year-old safety has 25 tackles and two sacks through three games.

Ties for team lead in tackles
Maye recorded seven tackles (three solo) and a pass defensed in Sunday's 31-13 loss to San Francisco.
Analysis: Maye cooled down after a career game in the season opener, but he still tied with Quinnen Williams for the team lead in tackles. The fourth-year safety out of Florida is playing the best football of his career for a Jets team that doesn't have much talent around him.

Terrific debut in new role
Maye notched 10 tackles (seven solo), two sacks, two defended passes and one forced fumble during Sunday's 27-17 loss to the Bills.
Analysis: Maye dealt with an ankle injury earlier this week, but he didn't show any signs of being hampered during his debut in the role Jamal Adams had handled in Gregg Williams' defense for the last three years. The 27-year-old looked reminiscent of his former All Pro teammate while flying all over the field during Sunday's season opener, as he logged career-high marks in terms of both tackles and sacks. Maye, who appears to have emerged as the new star of New York's secondary, will look to keep up his…read more

Officially active
Maye (calf) is officially active for the team's Week 1 contest against the Bills, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports.
Analysis: Maye practiced on a limited basis twice during the week, enough to get him ready for the opening contest of the season. He'll pair with Bradley McDougald to start on the back end of the Jets' secondary.

Slated to play
Maye (calf) is expected to play in Sunday's game versus the Bills, Kimberly Jones of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Maye logged two limited practice sessions this week, but he's made enough progress to play in the season opener. The 27-year-old will start at strong safety this season. Last season as a starter with Jamal Adams by his side, Maye produced 65 tackles, seven pass breakups and an interception, but it'll be a bit different this year with Adams replaced by Bradley McDougald.

Questionable for Week 1
Maye (calf) is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's contest against the Bills.
Analysis: Maye put forth a LP/DNP/LP practice slate this week while managing a calf injury. The fourth-year pro will handle his usual starting safety role for the Jets if cleared to suit up Sunday, but a final decision on his availability won't come until the weekend.

Limited in practice Friday
Maye (calf) was a limited participant in Friday's practice, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Maye wasn't able to take the practice field Thursday, so it's encouraging to see that he's returned in at least limited fashion. A final decision on his status for Week 1 won't be made until the weekend, but Matthias Farley and Ashtyn Davis would be in line for increased workloads if he were to miss any time.

Downgraded Thursday
Maye (ankle/calf) didn't suit up for Thursday's practice, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Maye was a limited participant for Wednesday's session, but he was downgraded while adding the ankle injury to his issues. The Florida product's status is worth monitoring, as he's expected to serve as the starting strong safety in 2020. If he's forced to miss Week 1's game against Buffalo, Matthias Farley and Ashtyn Davis could be in line to see an increased snap count.

Bothered by calf
Maye exited practice early Sunday with calf tightness, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
Analysis: Maye wanted to finish practice, but head coach Adam Gase decided to proceed with caution. Bennett Jackson and Ashtyn Davis will cover first-team duties while Maye sits out. Heading into his fourth season, Maye is expected to start once he's healthy, although he won't have All-Pro Jamal Adams on his side for the first time of his career.

Stayed healthy in 2019
Maye finished the 2019 season with 65 tackles and one interception.
Analysis: Maye was able to dress for all 16 games, staying healthy after a shoulder injury limited him to just six appearances in 2018. The 26-year-old safety had a few near-interceptions that he would surely want to have back, but he still turned in a solid campaign overall. Maye and fellow 2017 draftee Jamal Adams should continue to start alongside each other at safety in 2020 barring an injury or trade.
