Scores two TDs in loss
Elliott rushed 19 times for 81 yards and two touchdowns and secured two of five targets for 12 yards in the Cowboys' 31-24 loss to the Bears on Thursday.
Analysis: Elliott's play was a bright spot in the Cowboys' third straight defeat, although game script eventually served to cap his volume overall. The Pro Bowler has now logged a sub-20-carry workload in three of his past four games, and he hasn't eclipsed the 100-yard mark since Week 9 versus the Giants. Elliott does continue seeing multiple targets in the passing game on a regular basis, and he'll look to be get back to more robust volume in the ground attack in another tough matchup against the Rams…read more

Piles up yardage in loss
Elliott carried the ball 12 times for 71 yards and caught seven of 10 targets for 66 yards in Thursday's 26-15 loss to the Bills.
Analysis: The running back has topped 100 scrimmage yards in two straight games and seven times this season, but his inability to find the end zone proved costly for the Cowboys. Elliott will look to keep rolling next week on the road against a Bears defense that just gave up 83 rushing yards to his former backup, Bo Scarbrough.

Tops 100 scrimmage yards in loss
Elliott carried the ball 21 times for 86 yards and caught all four of his targets for 40 yards in Sunday's 13-9 loss to the Patriots.
Analysis: Rain put a damper on both team's offenses, but Elliott was still able to deliver triple-digit scrimmage yards for the sixth time in 11 games. The fourth-year RB is now 81 yards shy of the 1,000-yard mark for the third time in his career, a milestone he'll try to reach at home on Thanskgiving against the Bills.

Scores two TDs vs. Lions
Elliott carried 16 times for 45 yards, a touchdown, and one fumble Sunday against the Lions. He also caught two of three targets for 28 yards and a touchdown in the 35-27 win.
Analysis: Faced with an excellent matchup against one of the worst run defenses in the league, Elliott fumbled on his first touch and could only manage 2.8 yards per carry. He did, however, record a one-yard TD run in the second quarter and added the decisive score on a 17-yard reception midway through the fourth. Although Elliott failed to take full advantage of an excellent opportunity for a breakout game, his two scores were a boon for fantasy owners, and the passing offense continued to flourish.…read more

Stuffed in loss
Elliott rushed 20 times for 47 yards and had two catches for 16 yards in Sunday's 28-24 loss to Minnesota.
Analysis: The Vikings had a clear gameplan to not let Elliott beat them, and they executed it to perfection. It was a bit surprising that coach Jason Garrett did not find more creative ways to get his star back the ball in open space (just three targets). This was easily Elliott's worst fantasy performance this season, as he was at least able to hit pay dirt the three other occasions in which he did not rush for at least 100 yards. Zeke will have an excellent opportunity to bounce back in the Cowboys'…read more

Tops century mark in win
Elliott rushed 23 times for 139 yards, but was not targeted in Monday night's 37-18 win over the Giants.
Analysis: Elliott once again was a force on the ground, hitting the 100-yard mark for a third consecutive game. In fact, his output Monday set a new season high. Despite that production, Elliott didn't find the end zone for just the second time this season, and he wasn't targeted in the passing game for only the second time in his four-year career. Those factors prevented him from posting an even better performance, but Elliott still takes considerable momentum into Week 10's visit from the Vikings.

Scores, reaches century mark in win
Elliott ran the ball 22 times for 111 yards and a touchdown, adding 36 more yards on six receptions (seven targets) in Sunday's 37-10 win over the Eagles.
Analysis: The Cowboys were in desperate need of a win after dropping three consecutive contests, so coach Jason Garrett turned to his star back early and often in a blowout victory. Elliott had plenty of lanes to plow through (5.0 yards per carry) with the healthy return of starting tackles Tyron Smith and La'el Collins. The 24-year-old has been putting up RB1 numbers through six games (602 yards and six touchdowns), but we could see an uptick in production after the team's Week 8 bye now that Dallas'…read more

Big game in loss to Jets
Elliott carried the ball 28 times for 105 yards and a touchdown while catching five of six targets for 47 yards in Sunday's 24-22 loss to the Jets.
Analysis: Even with the Cowboys missing both starting tackles from their vaunted offensive line, Elliott still ran for at least 100 yards for the third time in six games and scored his fifth rushing TD. He's been the one consistent element in the Dallas offense this season, but Elliott will have his work cut out for him in Week 7 against a stingy Eagles front seven.

Solid numbers in loss
Elliott carried the ball 12 times for 62 yards and a touchdown and caught two of four targets for 29 yards in Sunday's 34-24 loss to the Packers.
Analysis: It was a moderately better performance than he managed last week in New Orleans, but once again Elliott's ability to get into the end zone kept his fantasy line afloat. He's scored a rushing TD in four of five games so far and stands a good chance of making it five of six in Week 6 on the road against a battered Jets defense.

Bottled up on ground
Elliott rushed 18 times for 35 yards and a touchdown, adding 30 yards on six receptions (seven targets) in Sunday's 12-10 loss to the Saints.
Analysis: Elliott was met at the line of scrimmage on the majority of his runs, finishing the with longest run of just six yards and fumbling on a key fouth-and-1 attempt in the second quarter. The Saints defense appeared determined to not let the Cowboys' run game get going, and that strategy paid off in a low-scoring, defensive affair. A positive takeaway for Zeke's fantasy owners would be that the back garnered 100 percent of Dallas' running back carries. The 24-year-old is still the workhorse of the…read more

Piles up 139 scrimmage yards
Elliott carried 19 times for 125 yards and caught two passes for 14 additional yards during Sunday's 31-6 win over the Dolphins.
Analysis: Elliott didn't face much resistance against a poor Dolphins defense as he gashed it for 6.6 yards per carry. He could have fared even better if not for a big game from backfield mate Tony Pollard, who piled up 128 scrimmage yards and a touchdown of his own. Elliott now has 264 scrimmage yards on 46 touches over the last two games and could face an even heftier workload next Sunday on the road against the Saints.

Won't face limited snap count
Elliott will return to his usual workload for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: The Cowboys kept a close eye on his snaps following his preseason holdout, and Elliott saw a lower share of offensive plays during the first two games of 2019 (54.4 percent in Week 1 and 76.8 percent in Week 2) than he did in any game last year. The team is confident his conditioning has caught up, however, and are ready to put him on the field for his customary 80-plus percent of snaps. Dominates in workhorse role
Elliott ran for 111 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries during Sunday's game against Washington. He also caught two passes for nine additional yards in the 31-21 win.
Analysis: After playing in a somewhat limited capacity during the season opener, Elliott took on his usual workhorse role in this one and responded by averaging 4.8 yards per carry against a solid Redskins front. He took a backseat to the passing offense at times in the red zone but topped his day off with a short rushing score in the fourth quarter. Now back up to speed along with what looks like an elite offense, Elliott is primed for a big game next Sunday at home against an abysmal Dolphins team.

Gearing up for increased workload
Elliott is prepared for more touches Week 2 in Washington, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports. "I think I'm ready now for a normal workload. Just depends on how (running backs coach Gary Brown) and Kellen (Moore) and coach (Jason) Garrett are feeling on Sunday," Elliott said. "But if they ask me, I'll be able to go out there and do it."
Analysis: After his holdout ended with a six-year, $90 million extension last Wednesday, Elliott wasn't a workhorse in his first action of the season, earning 37 of 68 offensive snaps (54 percent) in Sunday's win against the Giants. For comparison's sake, he logged less than 80 percent of the snaps on offense one time in 18 chances (including playoffs) in 2018. Elliott was reasonably efficient with his workload, turning 14 touches into 63 yards from scrimmage and one touchdown. Assuming the Week 2 game…read more

Finds end zone in Week 1 win
Elliott carried the ball 13 times for 53 yards and a touchdown and caught one of two targets for 10 yards in Sunday's 35-17 win over the Giants.
Analysis: There was plenty of uncertainty regarding Elliott's Week 1 workload after he held out for a new contract through all of training camp and the preseason, but while he wound up splitting carries with Tony Pollard, he did a lot more damage with his opportunities -- capping the scoring on the afternoon for Dallas with a 10-yard TD scamper late in the third quarter. Conflicting reports on workload
Elliott is expected to receive around 20-to-25 snaps in Sunday's game against the Giants, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Meanwhile, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports that Elliott is expecting to handle a "normal" workload in Week 1.
Analysis: Unless Elliott is getting the ball on nearly every snap he plays in Rapoport's projection, the two reports are seemingly at odds with one another with regard to the running back's projected workload. Though Rapoport notes that the Cowboys are satisfied with Elliott's conditioning after he logged only three practices this week following an extended holdout, the team reportedly wants to ease the 24-year-old back into the mix and avoid the soft-tissue injuries that can often crop up after a…read more

Eyeing 'normal' workload Week 1
Elliott is expecting to handle a "normal" workload Sunday in the Cowboys' game against the Giants, a source tells Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com.
Analysis: Despite missing all of training camp and the preseason before agreeing to a six-year, $90 million contract extension Wednesday, Elliott apparently feels as though his conditioning is up to par after logging three practices. Though prior reports suggested that the star running back would be in store for a limited slate of around 20-to-25 plays in Week 1, the Cowboys appear willing to loosen the reins on Elliott if he looks to be in good form early in the contest. Added to 53-man roster
Elliott was added to the Cowboys' 53-man roster Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: This should come as no surprise considering the Cowboys gave every indication their star running back would be available for Week 1. How much playing time Elliott receives is another question entirely, as Jane Slater of NFL Network reported earlier in the week the 24-year-old would get approximately 20-to-25 snaps despite executive vice president Stephen Jones suggesting Elliott "came in in really good shape." Workload TBD on Sunday
On Thursday, executive vice president Stephen Jones wouldn't touch on Elliott's snap count for Sunday's game against the Giants, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports. "He came in in really good shape. Hats off to him," Jones added. "I think he's going to be ready to go ... barring something unforeseen."
Analysis: Jones didn't exactly shed light on the situation as the Cowboys announced Elliott's extension Thursday. Elliott wasn't listed on the first two injury reports of Week 1, so there's no indication he's dealing with a health concern. On the other hand, Jane Slater of NFL Network reported Wednesday that Elliott will get approximately 20-to-25 snaps this weekend, indicating a split of the RB reps with rookie Tony Pollard may come to pass. Elliott is present for Wednesday's practice, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Elliott's contract dispute came to an end earlier Wednesday, when the star running back agreed to terms with the Cowboys on a six-year, $90 million contract extension that includes $50 million guaranteed. The new deal puts Elliott on track to play in Sunday's regular-season opener against the Giants, during which he could play 20-to-25 snaps, according to Jane Slater of NFL Network. Set for 20-to-25 snaps Week 1
The Cowboys plan for Elliott to play about 20-to-25 snaps Week 1 against the Giants, though the plan could change before Sunday's game, Jane Slater of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported earlier Wednesday that Elliott and the Cowboys agreed to a six-year, $90 million contract that includes $50 million guaranteed. The timing allows Elliott to practice Wednesday for the first time since the offseason program, which would put him on track for an appearance in the regular-season opener. Gets new deal from Dallas
Elliott and the Cowboys agreed Wednesday on a six-year contract extension, a source told Todd Archer of ESPN.com. The extension is worth $90 million and includes $50 million guaranteed, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Analysis: With the new deal in place, Elliott's holdout looks like it will end. Assuming he is in fact back at practice Wednesday, there's a good chance he'll be able to play Week 1 against the Giants, though how much depends on his conditioning. If Elliott's workload is at all restricted in the season opener, rookie Tony Pollard would likely be the main beneficiary for added snaps.

Nearing deal?
Elliott and the Cowboys are reportedly in the final stages of a contract extension that would make him the NFL's highest-paid running back, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Of course, the report comes with the caveat that there are "still plenty of issues to hash out," so despite the apparent progress and reported urgency with regard to getting a deal done in short order, the situation is still not settled. In any case, with things trending in the right direction, it's plausible that Elliott will sign in time to be ready for Week 1, while the possibility of a protracted holdout now seems unlikely.

Elliott and the Cowboys are reportedly working with "a sense of urgency" to finalize a new contract in the next 24 hours, ESPN.com reports.

Jones hopeful with regard to contract talks
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones indicated Tuesday that there's been some progress made in the team's contract talks with Elliott, while noting that he was "hopeful" to have the running back available for Sunday's season opener, ESPN.com reports.

Flying back to Dallas
Elliott is flying back to the Dallas area, though obstacles remain in discussions for a contract extension, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Elliott has been in Cabo San Lucas throughout most of his holdout, briefly returning to the United States at one point in mid-August. His presence in Dallas might hint at the possibility of a Week 1 appearance, but it doesn't mean he's softening his contract demands. Barring a quick deal, Tony Pollard is set to lead the Dallas backfield Sunday against the Giants, with Alfred Morris next up in a reserve role. Making progress?
The Cowboys and Elliott are getting closer on the guaranteed money on a new contract, but the average annual salary remains a work in progress, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Elliott likely is seeking something in the ballpark of Todd Gurley's $45 million in guarantees and a salary in excess of $13 million per year. Considering there has been progress in recent days on an amended deal, this situation continues to hold intrigue for the Cowboys' Week 1 backfield. While Elliott remains on the Reserve/Did Not Report list, rookie Tony Pollard will serve as the No. 1 RB. That is, until (or if) the 2016 and 2018 NFL rushing champ is back on the 53-man roster.

No deal yet
A source relayed to Jane Slater of NFL Network that while talks with Elliott continued late Sunday, a new deal with the Cowboys is still "not close."
Analysis: There had been some optimism on that front this past weekend, but as Week 1 approaches, the running back remains on the team's "Reserve/Did Not Report" list, with no deal in hand as the Cowboys' matchup against the Giants on Sunday approaches. With each hour/day that passes, the chances that Tony Pollard heads the team's Week 1 backfield increase. Analysis: The Cowboys reportedly expected more compromise after Saturday's negotiations brought some positive momentum. Elliott and the Cowboys are closing in on a contract extension, Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports reports.
Analysis: Robinson specifies that he's reporting sourced information, not just speculating based on what's already known. Another reliable reporter, Adam Schefter of ESPN, passed along similar information Saturday, noting that Elliott could finalize a contract by the end of this weekend. Reportedly close to contract extension
The Cowboys and Elliott (contract dispute) are reportedly close to a contract extension and are aiming to wrap up a new deal by this weekend, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: This isn't the first time we've heard positive news in regards to a potential Elliott contract extension that has carried on throughout the preseason, but this certainly paints a more optimistic fantasy picture for the star running back compared to owner Jerry Jones' comments Thursday, which suggested he could miss multiple regular-season games. Analysis: The deadline for Elliott to come to terms on a new contract and play in Week 1 is drawing closer, and it doesn't sound as though a deal is close to being reached. "I'm operating as though right now he's going to miss regular-season games," said Jones. Deadline looming for Week 1
Elliott will need to end his holdout before next Wednesday's practice to have a real chance of featuring in the Cowboys' offense for Week 1, David Moore of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Dallas will begin preparing for the Giants in earnest on Wednesday, and while Zeke may be keeping himself in great shape during his self-imposed exile in Cabo San Lucas, if he's not with the team to be integrated into the game plan, it's hard to imagine him seeing much action in the opener even if he walks back through the door at the last minute. Treated with patience by team
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Wednesday in his radio appearance on 105.3 The Fan Dallas that he isn't too worried about having Elliott (contract dispute) available for the start of the regular season. "We've got a marathon here," Jones said. "We want Zeke when we get to the playoffs. We want Zeke when we're in the dog days of the season."
Analysis: Executive vice president Stephen Jones sang a different tune last week, saying he was confident in the team reaching an agreement with Elliott before the Sept. 8 season opener against the Giants. A strong preseason from rookie running back Tony Pollard may allow the Cowboys to be a bit more patient, but they would still be far better off with Elliott in the September lineup. Team confident of deal before Week 1
Executive VP Stephen Jones expressed Friday that he is confident Elliott and the Cowboys will agree to terms on a new contract prior to Week 1, according to Todd Archer of ESPN.com.
Analysis: While appearing on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas on Friday, Jones was asked about Elliott's status, and he noted that "things happen real quick" in contract negotiations. "Sometimes in hours," Jones added. While Jones expressed optimism a deal would get reached, he also added, "I don't think we're close because there's not a lot of activity." As such, it seems both sides have a number in mind at the moment, but neither is willing to budge. All in all, Jones' comments indicate it shouldn't take long…read more

Team makes contract offer
Elliott has reportedly been offered a contract by the Cowboys that would make him him one of the NFL's two highest-paid running backs, according to ESPN's Ed Werder.
Analysis: Werder notes that such contract terms would mean that the Cowboys are offering Elliott more than what LeVeon Bell gets from the Jets and less than what the Rams pay Todd Gurley. It remains to be seen if the star back is lured back by this latest offer, but if the report is accurate, it's at least indicative of some movement toward potentially ending Elliot's holdout in advance of the team's Sept. 8 regular-season opener against the Giants.

Travels back to Dallas
Despite an ongoing contract dispute, Elliott has flown back to Dallas after training in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico for several weeks, WFAA's Mike Leslie reports.
Analysis: The contract holdout persisted throughout the entirety of training camp as expected, but Elliott and his team traveled back home to Dallas this weekend while the Cowboys prepare for their second preseason tilt against the Rams on Saturday in Hawaii. Elliott's return to the area doesn't exactly translate to expedited negotiations moving forward, but at least he'll be physically available upon the potential agreement of a new deal.

Staying in shape
Elliott's weight is in the low 220s, which is the lightest he's been since his rookie season, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Now in the third week of his contract holdout, Elliott reportedly has been working out in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, the same place he went during his six-game suspension in 2017. He returned from that ban to take 51 carries for 200 yards over the final two weeks of the season, playing 125 snaps in the process. Elliott never seems to have any issue with strength or conditioning, but it still won't be ideal if he doesn't have much time to practice before he plays in a game. It's unclear when his…read more

Looking doubtful for training camp
Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said Tuesday he doesn't expect the team to sign Elliott before training camp ends, Tim Cowlishaw of The Dallas Morning News reports. "I don't see anything happening. I don't see any momentum," Jones said.
Analysis: The reigning NFL rushing champ has indicated he won't report without a new contract, but even after camp ends Elliott would still have time to join the team and be ready for Week 1, as he's been staying in shape while holding out. There have been conflicting reports about the value of the Cowboys' latest offer to Elliott, but it likely lies somewhere between the deal Todd Gurley signed in 2018 that included a whopping $45 million in guaranteed money, and the contract Le'Veon Bell received from…read more

Reportedly won't play without new deal
Elliott's representatives have reportedly told the Cowboys that the running back doesn't plan to play this coming season without a new contract, Josina Anderson of ESPN reports.
Analysis: On the plus side, "a source close to the situation" relayed to Anderson that at this stage, it doesn't seem likely the running back's holdout will linger into the regular season, with that conclusion "based on the belief that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wants to get a new deal done" with Elliott prior to Week 1. Staying in shape
Elliott is staying in shape and doing running back drills during his holdout, Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News reports. "From the couple of conversations that we've had, he's doing what he needs to do and staying in great shape," running backs coach Gary Brown said Thursday. "And I'm just looking forward to whenever he gets here. He'll be ready to go."
Analysis: Of course, Elliott is doing those drills and workouts in Cabo, so how far behind the rest of the team he is won't really be known until he's in camp. The running back has to report by Tuesday (Aug. 6) to avoid losing an accrued year towards free agency, so it should become clear next week whether he and the Cowboys are in for a protracted contract battle or not.

Officially on did not report list
Elliott has been officially placed on the reserve/did not report list by the Cowboys, Rob Phillips of DallasCowboys.com reports.
Analysis: It's purely a procedural move, and the running back will rejoin the roster once he reports to camp, which he must do by Aug. 6 or lose an accrued season towards free agency. With two years remaining on his rookie deal, Elliott has little leverage in his holdout beyond the team's Super Bowl aspirations and the lack of depth behind him on the depth chart, but the two sides will continue discussing a contract extension for the two-time rushing champ -- although the Cowboys' priority remains…read more

Officially holding out
Elliott's holdout became official Friday when he didn't show up for the Cowboys' morning physical and conditioning run, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Analysis: Elliott never announced his decision, perhaps hoping to sign an extension at the last minute before the start of training camp. The Cowboys now have the option of fining their star running back, though it isn't the best idea if they intend to keep negotiations cordial. Elliott will lose an accrued year toward free agency if he doesn't report to the team by Aug. 6. He's under contract for two more seasons, while teammates Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper are only signed through 2019.

Analysis: A prolonged holdout would put the most pressure on the Cowboys, but Elliott would lose an accrued season towards free agency if he doesn't report to training camp by Aug. 6. The relationship between team and player reportedly remains cordial, albeit with the complication of Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper entering contract seasons. Will not face suspension
Elliott won't face discipline from the league as a result of his involvement in an incident that occurred in Las Vegas in May, David Helman of the Cowboys' official site reports.
Analysis: Commissioner Roger Goodell met with Elliott on Tuesday, and Elliott issued a statement later that day volunteering "to take advantage of the resources available to help him continue to grow personally." The league issued a statement pertaining to its investigation into Elliott that noted "there was no violation of the personal conduct policy and no further action is warranted." With that, Elliott is seemingly in the clear and will not face a suspension to begin the 2019 season.

Meeting with commissioner Tuesday
Elliott will meet with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Tuesday to discuss a May incident at a music festival in Las Vegas, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The NFL has proven especially sensitive to any incident caught on tape, though Elliott's recent encounter isn't comparable to past examples involving serious violence. The NFL likely will review a May 19 incident involving Elliott and a concert security guard, Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports reports.
Analysis: Briefly handcuffed after bumping the security guard, Elliott ultimately wasn't arrested or charged with any crime. Elliott was detained but eventually released without charge Sunday morning at a music festival in Las Vegas, NFL.com reports.
Analysis: For a player that has served a six-game suspension due to violations of the personal conduct policy, Elliott likely will be scrutinized by the NFL for this incident with a security guard. Under contract through 2020
The Cowboys exercised Elliott's fifth-year option Tuesday, keeping him under contract through 2020, Rob Phillips of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: The decision to pick up the $9.1 million option was an easy one for the Cowboys, as the 23-year-old has established himself as one of the NFL's few three-down bellcows since entering the league in 2016. The option may end up serving merely as a placeholder while Elliott and the Cowboys turn their attention to working out a long-term extension that will keep the Ohio State product in Dallas for the duration of his prime.

Decision looming for 2020 option
Team executive Stephen Jones said Wednesday that the Cowboys expect to pick up the fifth-year option on Elliott's contract before the May 3 deadline, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Since he was selected with the fourth overall pick in the 2016 draft, Elliott is the only player in the league with more than 1,000 touches (1,003, to be exact), through which he's produced 5,247 yards from scrimmage and 34 touchdowns in 40 games. Those numbers make the Cowboys' upcoming decision a no-brainer, especially with DeMarcus Lawrence's long-term extension out of the way. Aside from Lawrence and Elliott, the team also may seek to lock Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper into long-term deals.

Elliott is present Monday for the beginning of the Cowboys' voluntary offseason program, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Elliott hopes to sign a contract extension this offseason but won't apply pressure in the form of a holdout. He's technically entering the final season of his rookie contract, but it's a given that Dallas exercises the fifth-year option to keep him locked in through 2020. Of course, the 23-year-old running back presumably hopes to sign his long-term deal as soon as possible, knowing the risk that comes with the massive workloads he handles. Bottled up in loss
Elliott rushed 20 times for 47 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 30-22 loss to the Rams. He added two catches (five targets) for 19 yards.
Analysis: Elliott couldn't get anything going against the Rams' stout front, as he was routinely being met with first contact behind the line of scrimmage. The star back was able to salvage his fantasy day with a touchdown from in close, but DFS owners were certainly hoping for a bigger output considering Elliott's price tag. Not on injury report
Elliott isn't listed on the Tuesday injury report for Saturday's playoff game against the Seahawks.
Analysis: Elliott was rested for a Week 17 win over the Giants, and while he's surely taken his fair share of bumps and bruises during a busy season, his availability for the playoffs was never in doubt. He's already feeling the benefit of sitting out the regular-season finale, saying Tuesday that he feels fresh and is ahead of his normal weekly schedule, per Todd Archer of ESPN.com. Injury had role in Week 17 absence
Head coach Jason Garrett admitted Monday that injuries played a role in Elliott being made inactive for Sunday's game against the Giants, Jon Machota of The Dallas Morning News reports. "He's been banged up a little bit with different parts of his body. We just felt like it was the right thing for him to not be a part of it yesterday. I do think he'll be fresher going forward," Garrett elaborated.
Analysis: Elliott missed his first game of the season Sunday at a time when the Cowboys had little to play for since the team was already locked into the NFC's No. 4 seed. However, it seems likely the league's leading rusher could have suited up had Dallas had something to gain, especially considering how management allowed quarterback Dak Prescott and receiver Amari Cooper to take the field. Sidelined Sunday, as expected
Elliott (coach's decision) is listed as inactive Sunday at the Giants, David Helman of the Cowboys' official site reports.
Analysis: The decision follows a report from NFL Network's Jane Slater, who relayed earlier Sunday that the Cowboys were slated to rest Elliott in Week 17. Elliott thus will end the 2018 campaign with 304 carries for 1,434 yards, 77 receptions (on 95 targets) for 567 yards and nine total touchdowns in 15 games. Among his replacements, Rod Smith may take on the larger share of snaps out of the backfield because Darius Jackson has yet to earn a carry or target as a pro.

Not expected to play Week 17
Elliott is expected to be rested for Sunday's game against the Giants, team sources tell Jane Slater of NFL Network.
Analysis: Team owner Jerry Jones suggested earlier in the week that the Cowboys were unlikely to rest key starters in the regular-season finale, but that never seemed like a probable outcome with Dallas locked in as the NFC's No. 4 seed in the postseason. Analysis: While he doesn't have final say on the matter, Elliott did at least provide a glimpse into his team's possible logic for using key players in the regular-season finale. As Hairopoulos notes, the Cowboys aren't in the same place they were in 2016 when Elliott was rested for a meaningless Week 17 contest. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Monday that the Cowboys will go "all out" in their Week 17 matchup with the Giants, suggesting Elliott will play in the contest, Jon Machota of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: After defeating the Buccaneers in Week 16, the Cowboys clinched the NFC East title and are locked in as the conference's No. 4 seed in the postseason. With nothing on the line for Dallas in the regular-season finale, there's little to gain by using key players extensively and potentially exposing them to injury ahead of the playoffs. Solid but unspectacular in win
Elliott rushed 18 times for 85 yards and brought in five of six targets for 24 yards in the Cowboys' 27-20 win over the Buccaneers on Sunday. He fumbled once but it was recovered by the offense.
Analysis: It was a rock-solid yet somehow underwhelming effort for Elliott, who's spoiled fantasy owners all season with some eye-popping numbers. His overall touches were down Sunday for the second straight week, which has resulted in back-to-back sub-100-yard tallies on the ground for only the third time this season. He had a couple carries near the goal line, but he was stood up as the Cowboys failed to take advantage of numerous red-Zone opportunities.
