Says he's done with NFL
Irving (suspension) said he doesn't want to play in the NFL anymore, ESPN.com reports. "Basically, guys, I quit," Irving said. "I don't want to talk about a suspension and all this other nonsense. I'm outta there."
Analysis: Irving released a video Thursday on Instagram Live, discussing his frustrations with the NFL's substance abuse policy while he appeared to be smoking marijuana. The Cowboys aren't expected to re-sign the 25-year-old defensive tackle, as he recently was handed his third suspension in the past three years. It now seems Irving will consider retirement, or at least a prolonged break from his football career.

Suspended indefinitely
Irving has received an indefinite suspension for violations of the NFL's substance abuse policy, Tom Pelissero of NFL.com reports.
Analysis: Irving kicked off the 2017 campaign with a four-game ban for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances. He proceeded to receive a suspension of similar length to start last season due to a violation of the substance abuse policy. Those transgressions and injuries have limited him to 10 games total the past two years, and he'll now have his work cut out for him to land an NFL gig in the future.

Possibility of suspension remains
Irving (ankle) continues to be evaluated for a potential suspension, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Irving was suspended the first four games of the 2018 season for violating the NFL's drug policy, and he could be facing another ban after he missed multiple drug tests during the season. Calvin Watkins of The Athletic reports the NFL is investigating Irving for a domestic violence incident, which reportedly played a part in his lengthy absence from the Cowboys while nursing an ankle injury this past season. The 25-year-old defensive tackle is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent and…read more

Expected to leave Dallas
Irving (ankle) isn't expected to re-sign with the Cowboys, David Moore of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Irving recorded four tackles and one sack across just two games with the Cowboys in 2018, as his season was derailed by personal issues and a high-ankle sprain. The Cowboys reportedly do not intend to pick up Irving's 2019 option, in which case the defensive tackle will become a free agent in March. It's worth noting there are reports that Irving missed multiple league-mandated drug tests in 2018.

Could be facing suspension
Irving (ankle) has missed multiple drug tests from the league office over the last few months, Clarence Hill Jr. of the Star-Telegram reports.
Analysis: The defensive lineman missed the first four games of the 2018 season due to his last violation of the league's substance abuse policy, and in the eyes of the NFL a missed test counts as another failed test. Irving has been dealing with a personal situation that has kept him away from the Cowboys' facilities, which likely explains why he wasn't available for testing, but whether the league will take that into consideration before issuing another suspension is unclear. Irving's also been dealing…read more

Irving (ankle) will not play Sunday against the Buccaneers, Jon Machota of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Irving was unable to practice in any capacity this week. As of Wednesday, Irving isn't considered close to returning to game action. Still not close to return
Irving (ankle) can't run without limping and isn't considering close to returning to game action, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Analysis: Irving has been sidelined for the past seven games with a high-ankle sprain and looks poised to extend that streak to eight Sunday against the Buccaneers. At this point, Irving might not be ready to play again until the postseason, at which time he may only be asked to play a minor rotational role along the defensive line.

Expected to play again this season
Owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday that he expects Irving (ankle) to play again this season, David Helman of the Cowboy's official site reports.
Analysis: "I do expect him [Irving]," Jones said. "He's limited on how he's moving around right now, but he's working to get viable." This is about as vague as health updates get, but it inspires some hope that Irving -- who has missed seven consecutive games due to an ankle sprain -- will suit up during the Cowboys' likely playoff run. Irving's participation in practice will be worth monitoring heading into a Week 16 matchup against the Buccaneers.

Ruled out Week 13
Irving (ankle) is ruled out for Thursday's game against the Saints, David Helman of the Cowboys' official site reports.
Analysis: Irving did not practice in any capacity this week, and will miss his fifth straight game as he continues to nurse a high ankle sprain. The 25-year-old has also been dealing with off-the-field issues, according to Brandon George of The Dallas Morning News, so it's difficult to discern when, or if, Irving will retake the field this season. As long as Irving remains sidelined, Caraun Reid will serve as the top backup to starting defensive tackle Tyrone Crawford.

Dealing with off-field issues
Irving (ankle) has been absent from team practices and meetings while dealing with off-the-field issues, Brandon George of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: On top of off-the-field concerns, Irving is still rehabbing a high ankle sprain and hasn't seen the field since Week 7. It's unclear when, or if, the Iowa State product will rejoin the Cowboys. In the meantime, however, Caraun Reid will remain the top backup to starter Tyrone Crawford as long as Irving remains sidelined.

Not practicing Thursday
Irving (ankle) is not expected to practice Thursday, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Analysis: Irving has not suited up since Week 7 against Washington due to an ankle injury. If he's unable to practice Thursday, it will be the second consecutive day he's been unable to do so. Ruled out for Week 10
Irving (ankle) will not play Sunday against the Eagles, Jon Machota of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Irving will miss his second consecutive game since sustaining the injury in practice Nov. 1. Initial X-rays came back negative and the exact severity has yet to be determined, but the injury appears serious enough for Irving to miss significant time. In Irving's absence, Antwaun Woods will likely see a similar game to his 48-snap performance Week 9.

Unlikely to practice Thursday
Irving (ankle) is not expected to practice Thursday, David Helman of the Cowboys' official site reports.
Analysis: If Irving misses practice Thursday, it would be the second consecutive day he's failed to do so. The Iowa State product was unable to suit up in Week 9 due to a left high ankle sprain, and this news doesn't bode well for his Week 10 availability. The Cowboys will make the official call on Irving for Week 10, but his status currently feels questionable at best.

Won't play Monday
Irving (ankle) was ruled out for Monday's game against Tennessee, Jon Machota of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Irving tweaked his ankle at practice Thursday and although the severity has yet to be fully determined, his status for Monday always seemed to be in doubt. The 25-year-old is apparently dealing with a left high ankle sprain and was using crutches while in considerable pain after suffering the injury, David Moore of The Dallas Morning News reports. Irving will be sidelined for at least one game but his status for Week 10 at Philadelphia currently feels questionable at best.

Will undergo MRI on ankle
Irving is set to undergo an MRI on Friday after tweaking his ankle in practice, Rob Phillips of the Cowboys' official site reports.
Analysis: Irving suffered the injury Thursday when he got his foot caught in the ground, and X-rays have already come back negative. The 25-year-old will have an extra day to prepare for Monday's game against the Titans, but for now his status remains up in the air.

Tweaks ankle in practice
Irving exited Thursday's practice after suffering an ankle injury, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Analysis: Irving was officially listed as limited on Dallas' first practice report of the week, Jon Machota of The Dallas Morning News reports. The rotational defensive lineman was spotted using crutches following the team's practice, but he's not expected to have suffered a long-term injury. Nonetheless, Irving's status for Monday's game against the Titans should be considered uncertain.
