Won't return Sunday
Marlowe has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's divisional-round matchup against Cincinnati due to a groin injury.
Analysis: Marlowe was traded to Buffalo midseason and was inserted into the starting lineup following Damar Hamlin's terrifying injury. Marlowe recorded an interception during the Bills' regular-season finale and had three tackles in Sunday's game before being ruled out. Jaquan Johnson has taken Marlowe's spot as the starting safety next to Jordan Poyer.

Starting for Hamlin
Marlowe will start Sunday's game against the Patriots, Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: After the terrifying scene Monday night, Damar Hamlin has made tremendous progress, but he won't be able to play again this season, which forces Marlowe into the starting lineup at safety alongside Jordan Poyer. Marlowe hasn't played since Week 12 and has operated primarily on special teams since joining Buffalo, but he did log four tackles during a Week 8 start against the Panthers while he was a member of the Falcons.

Traded to Buffalo
Atlanta traded Marlowe to Buffalo on Tuesday in exchange for a 2023 seventh-round pick.
Analysis: Marlowe played primarily on special teams for Atlanta before drawing a start in Week 8 with Jaylinn Hawkins sidelined due to a concussion. In Buffalo, Marlowe figures to provide depth at safety and could crack the starting lineup with Jordan Poyer dealing with an elbow injury and Micah Hyde (neck) on IR and out for the season.

Expected to start Sunday
Marlowe is expected to start at strong safety in the absence of Jaylinn Hawkins (concussion) during Sunday's matchup against Carolina, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Hawkins picked up a concussion during Atlanta's Week 7 loss to Cincinnati and was ruled out for Sunday's contest at the beginning of the week. Marlowe, who'll be making his 17th NFL start, played 15 defensive snaps in Hawkins' absence against the Bengals but figures to see an expanded role versus the Panthers. Across his last 38 appearances, Marlowe has totaled 96 tackles, five pass defenses, two interceptions and 1.5 sacks.

Returns to Atlanta
The Falcons re-signed Marlowe on Thursday, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Marlowe initially made the 53-man roster but was released a day later. However, as expected, he's re-signed with the team after the Falcons placed a plethora of players on IR. The 30-year-old safety will likely operate as a backup behind Jaylinn Hawkins, who beat Erik Harris for the starting gig.

Released by Atlanta
The Falcons released Marlowe on Wednesday, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Marlowe was operating as the team's third safety during training camp and preseason action, so this comes as a surprising move. However, Rothstein suggests that it's possible Atlanta could re-sign Marlowe if the Falcons place anyone on the short-term IR in the next few days.

Signs with Falcons
The Falcons have signed Marlowe to a one-year contract, Matt Urben of USA Today reports.
Analysis: This past season, Marlowe logged 67 tackles in 16 games (including nine starts) with the Lions. The 29-year-old gives the Falcons some added depth and experience at safety, but he'll need to secure a starting role in order to find himself on the IDP radar in 2022.

Seven stops in Week 13
Marlowe recorded seven solo tackles during Sunday's 29-27 win over the Vikings.
Analysis: Marlowe played more than 90 percent of the Lions' defensive snaps for the second consecutive week and has recorded 17 tackles during that span. After losing out on the starting strong safety job to Will Harris to begin the season, the 29-year-old safety is now playing a prominent role for Detroit's secondary.

Entering season in backup role
Marlowe will enter the season in a backup role after Will Harris won the starting job at strong safety, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Marlowe rotated first-team reps with Harris throughout the offseason before Harris pulled away with the starting role during the preseason. While he likely won't see enough playing time to be relevant in IDP leagues, Marlowe should at least serve in a rotational role for Detroit this year. He was cut ahead of Tuesday's roster deadline but re-signed with the team Thursday.

Candidate for starting role
Marlowe is in the mix for a starting role at safety, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
Analysis: Coming to Detroit from Buffalo, the soon-to-be 29-year-old was the Bills' third safety in 2020 behind two excellent players in Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer. After he and Will Harris reportedly rotated reps with the first-team defense next to Tracy Walker during OTAs and minicamp this offseason, Marlowe now appears to have a chance at becoming a starter with the Lions.

Heads to Detroit
The Lions signed Marlowe to a contract Thursday.
Analysis: Marlowe, who spent the past three seasons with the Bills, tallied a career-high 22 tackles (16 solo), 1.5 sacks, two interceptions and three pass breakups through 15 games in 2020. The 28-year-old adds depth to the Lions' safety corps and also figures to be a contributor on special teams.

Back with team
Marlowe was activated off the reserve/COVID-19 list by the Bills on Thursday, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.
Analysis: Marlowe was placed on the list due to coming in close contact with Josh Norman, who tested positive for the virus last weekend. Marlowe is expected to return to the lineup for the Week 12 game against the Chargers, as he'll add depth in the secondary while seeing most of his snaps on special teams.

Part of COVID-19 incident
Marlowe has been determined to have been in recent close contact with Josh Norman, who has tested positive for COVID-19, The Buffalo News reports. Marlowe has been placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list and will not play Sunday at Arizona.
Analysis: The Bills have had issues in their secondary all season, so Marlowe has been seeing meaningful time on defense for weeks. For now, Buffalo will have to figure out a way to replace Norman, Levi Wallace and Marlowe, as the secondary is now severely depleted for Sunday's contest.

Sticks with Buffalo
Marlowe has re-signed with the Bills on a one-year deal.
Analysis: The Bills are set at safety with Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde, but Marlowe knows the defense well enough to serve as a dependable backup and has proven to be a decent special teams player. His re-signing does leave the Bills' interest in veteran Kurt Coleman (now a free agent) in question, however.
