Returns to Bucs' practice squad
Griffin was signed to the Buccaneers' practice squad Wednesday, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Griffin will return to the Buccaneers' for an eighth consecutive season, making him the longest tenured quarterback in franchise history. That being said, the 32-year-old has not appeared in a game since 2020 and has thrown four total regular-season passes since entering the league in 2013. Griffin will most likely spend the entire season on the practice squad barring any injuries.

Cut by Bucs
Griffin was waived by the Buccaneers on Tuesday, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Griffin re-signed with the Buccaneers in March but he will now look for another opportunity, as the team opted to keep Blaine Gabbert and Kyle Trask as the two reserve options behind Tom Brady to open the 2022 campaign. The quarterback has been with the Buccaneers organization since 2015 and will likely return to the team's practice squad once he clears waivers.

Stays with Bucs
The Buccaneers have re-signed Griffin.
Analysis: Griffin, who has been with the Bucs since September 2015, spent last season on Tampa Bay's practice squad. Now that he's back in the fold, the 32-year-old will remain in the team's backup QB mix along with 2021 second-rounder Kyle Trask behind returning starter Tom Brady.

Moves back to practice squad
Griffin reverted to the Buccaneers' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
Analysis: Griffin was inactive for Sunday's loss to the Rams, despite the bump up from the practice squad. The 32-year-old has been with Tampa Bay since 2015, but he hasn't taken a snap in a regular-season game since 2019.

Elevated to practice squad
The Buccaneers elevated Griffin from their practice squad Saturday, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
Analysis: Griffin spent the entire regular season on Tampa Bay's practice squad, but he'll provide additional depth at quarterback behind Tom Brady in Sunday's divisional-round matchup against the Rams. Assuming Brady remains healthy, Griffin is unlikely to take the field.

Released by Tampa Bay
Griffin was released by the Buccaneers on Tuesday, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: The Buccaneers will seemingly keep two quarterbacks -- Blaine Gabbert and rookie second-round pick Kyle Trask -- to back up Tom Brady. Griffin has thrown just four regular-season passes since entering the NFL in 2013. He'll be a practice-squad candidate.

Unremarkable over two exhibitions
Griffin is 12-for-22 for 92 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions over the Buccaneers' first two preseason games.
Analysis: Griffin has put together matching 6-for-11 tallies in that pair of exhibitions, and with an average of just 4.2 yards per attempt, he's clearly been limited to short throws. The 31-year-old did not attempt a pass last season as the third quarterback, and with head coach Bruce Arians having previous experience with last season's No. 2 Blaine Gabbert, it appears Griffin could be headed to another year of perpetual inactive status if he does stick on the roster.

Staying with Tampa
Griffin is re-signing with the Buccaneers.
Analysis: Griffin was the team's No. 3 quarterback last season, stuck behind Tom Brady and Blaine Gabbert all year. Gabbert is currently a free agent, but the Bucs still have plenty of time to re-sign him or bring in someone else to compete for the backup job. At the moment, Brady and Griffin are the only QBs on the roster.

Won't dress for Week 15
Griffin (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's matchup against the Falcons.
Analysis: The Tulane standout remains without a snap played in 2020, as Blaine Gabbert continues to slot in as the backup quarterback behind Tom Brady. For his career, Griffin has only attempted four passes over two regular-season appearances.

Remains out Sunday
Griffin (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game versus the Broncos, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
Analysis: Griffin remains the No. 3 QB behind Tom Brady and Blaine Gabbert, so he'll likely remain inactive unless one of the aforementioned gets hurt.

Inactive against Panthers
Griffin (coach's decision) has been listed among the Buccaneers' inactive players for Sunday's matchup against Carolina, per the team's official Twitter account.
Analysis: The 30-year-old signal-caller will not put on a uniform Sunday, as it will instead be former first-round pick Blaine Gabbert who serves as a backup behind Tom Brady. Griffin attempted the first four regular-season passes of his career last year for Tampa Bay, but with Gabbert in the mix, he's been moved to the inactive list for Sunday's intradivisional clash.

Minimal role in '19
Griffin completed two of four passes for 18 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions across two appearances during the 2019 season. He also netted minus-1 yard on four rushes.
Analysis: As has been the case his entire career, Griffin's role was negligible, but he at least finally had an opportunity to see regular-season action for the first time in seven pro seasons. Griffin only was called in to handle a series for Jameis Winston during a Week 14 win over the Colts when the latter suffered what ultimately was determined to be a thumb fracture. Griffin otherwise played four snaps (but did not attempt a pass) at the end of a Week 15 blowout win over the Lions. Coach Bruce…read more

Finally sees regular-season action
Griffin came into the Buccaneers' 38-35 win over the Colts on Sunday with 12:02 remaining in the third quarter for an injured Jameis Winston (thumb) and completed two of four passes for 18 yards.
Analysis: Griffin had an opportunity to make a regular-season pass attempt for the first time in an NFL career that dates back to 2013, subbing for Winston to start the second half while the latter was having his injured hand evaluated. Griffin's stint in the contest only lasted one drive, with his two completions going to O.J. Howard (five yards) and Dare Ogunbowale (13 yards). Winston is expected to play through what has been diagnosed as a broken thumb, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports, but…read more
