McGee was signed by the Panthers on Tuesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Analysis: McGee amassed 116 tackles (75 solo) and four sacks throughout his first six years in the NFL, spending four seasons with the Raiders and two in Washington before being released by the Redskins in March. He'll provide depth at nose tackle for the Panthers with veteran Dontari Poe headed for surgery on his torn quadriceps.

Cut loose by Washington
McGee was released by the Redskins on Wednesday, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports.
Analysis: McGee missed half of the past season while recovering from a groin injury, appearing in only eight games and racking up nine tackles (seven solo) and one sack. Though McGee ended the season healthy, the Redskins will cut the 29-year-old with the aim of freeing up cap space. McGee, who inked a five-year, $25 million deal with Washington in March 2017, will likely have to settle for much less favorable contract terms on the open market this time around.

McGee (groin) was activated off the Physically Unable to Perform list Tuesday, JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington reports.
Analysis: McGee landed on the PUP list because of offseason groin surgery and returned to practice in mid-October. The 28-year-old had a career-high 44 tackles (24 solo) in 2017 and should re-enter the Redskins' defensive line rotation, with fellow nose tackles Caleb Brantley and Tim Settle seeing eight defensive snaps combined in the last four games behind starter Da'Ron Payne.
