Ryan Fitzpatrick: Joining Titans
Fitzpatrick agreed to a two-year contract with the Titans on Monday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Analysis: After wearing out his welcome in Buffalo, Fitzpatrick will head to Tennessee to join coach Mike Munchak and the Titans. Jake Locker, who underwent shoulder surgery earlier this year, is expected to be ready come June and will be the favorite to emerge from training camp with the starting job. However, Fitzpatrick will be waiting in the wings in case of an injury or slip-up.

The Titans have expressed interest in Fitzpatrick, the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Fitzpatrick, who has also drawn interest from the Bengals, would be a nice addition for Tennessee as Jake Locker's backup now that Matt Hasselbeck has been released.

The Bengals are interested in bringing Fitzpatrick back to Cincinnati.
Analysis: If Fitzpatrick -- who spent the past several seasons starting for the Bills -- does join the Bengals, it would be in a clear backup role behind Andy Dalton. Fitzpatrick held a similar role with Cincinnati behind Carson Palmer in 2007 and 2008.

Ryan Fitzpatrick: Shuffling Out Of Buffalo
Fitzpatrick has been released, according to BuffaloBills.com.
Analysis: No one should be surprised here, given Fitzpatrick's struggles the last season and a half coupled with a brand new coaching staff. The Bills look primed to draft a young signal caller in the first or second round of the draft, while it seems like Fitzpatrick's best shot would be to compete for a backup role on a decent team, or one that has numerous quarterback issues and would at least give him a long shot at a starting job. With a gun-slinging style of play that doesn't match his below-average arm strength, however, his starting days may be over.

The Bills re-signed Fitzpatrick's teammate Tarvaris Jackson on Friday, according to BuffaloBills.com. Said new coach Doug Marrone: "I spoke with Ryan and Tarvaris and told them we will have an open competition at the quarterback position similar to what we will do at all positions on our team heading into our offseason work."
Analysis: You can probably add whatever rookie or free agent QB the Bills bring in over the next few months to that mix, as this is an entirely new coaching staff, one that has time to set up its future. Frankly, it might be tough for a journeyman like Fitz - who doesn't have a strong arm and tends to force things - to win over Marrone for the long term. We think his best bet might be to win the job temporarily until a youngster is ready to take over, as it would almost be a surprise if the Bills didn't draft a quarterback in Round 1 or Round 2 in April. There's also a good chance the Bills just part ways with Fitzpatrick, but at least on paper it sounds like Marrone is going to let him have his day in court.

The Bills fired coach Chan Gailey on Monday, leaving Fitzpatrick's status cloudy heading into the offseason.
Analysis: After the Bills signed Fitzpatrick to a lucrative contract in 2011 where he's seemed to struggle badly since, more and more people are questioning his ability to lead the Bills to a playoff spot. With a below average arm and questionable decisions at times, the Bills are probably going to look to address the position either very early in the draft or in the offseason market. At best, Fitzpatrick will be allowed to stay and compete for his job, though there's also a chance he gets cut once the Bills finish sorting through the next coaching regime. He finished the 2012 season with a tied for career-best 24 touchdowns, but he also threw 16 interceptions - some of which put the final nail in the coffin - while completing 60.6 percent of his passes after a 62.0 percent performance in 2011.

Coach Chan Gailey will stick with a struggling Fitzpatrick for the season finale against the Jets, BuffaloBills.com reports. Said Gailey: "He gives us the best chance to win ... I still have a great deal of confidence in Fitz. Really, he threw the ball extremely well yesterday. If we had just hung onto it and catch them, the game's totally different to me. I thought he did some great things yesterday and he competed his rear end off. I have a lot of confidence in Fitz."
Analysis: There's been some thought the Bills might want to take a look at Tyler Thigpen or Tarvaris Jackson as they start making evaluations for next season, but it looks like we'd only see one of those two in a blowout, as Gailey and Fitzpatrick both might have their job on the line and would undoubtedly like to end a horrible season on a positive note.

Fitzpatrick completed 20 of 35 passes for 240 yards in Sunday's loss to the Dolphins. He had a touchdown and an interception.
Analysis: Another ho-hum performance for Fitzpatrick, who's actually been pretty consistent - albeit with uninspiring numbers - over the last three games, with between 217 and 247 yards in each, exactly one touchdown in each, and then at least one pick in each. That's not much to hang your hat on in today's passing league, but at least the Bills aren't in a situation where they'll be resting starters in the final week.

Fitzpatrick completed 21 of 38 passes for 217 yards in Sunday's loss to the Seahawks. He had one touchdown and two interceptions, while he was also sacked three times.
Analysis: Fitzpatrick was replaced by Tyler Thigpen at the end of the game because things were so out of hand with Seattle up by 33. The disappointments continue to roll in for the veteran with the below-average arm, as he's eclipsed 250 passing yards just twice all season even though he's played every game, while he has five picks in his last four games for the 5-9 Bills. The calls for a new QB next season are only going to get louder.

Fitzpatrick completed 25-of-33 passes for 247 yards in Sunday's loss to the Rams. He had one touchdown and one interception.
Analysis: The TD moved him into a tie for third on the Bills all-time passing touchdown list, while overall it was an OK fantasy day considering it was his first time over 180 passing yards in the last four games. Fitzpatrick remains a middling-at-best option, and will see a tough defense next week when the Bills head to Canada for their annual Toronto game. At least you won't have to worry about the weather if he's one of your regulars.

Fitzpatrick threw just 17 passes in Sunday's win over Jacksonville, completing nine of them for 112 yards. He also had two touchdowns, an interception, and a one-yard rushing score.
Analysis: This was about as good as could be expected on a poor weather day. He gets the Rams next week, in a home game, where you'll also want to check the weather if you've been using him. Just keep in mind that the rushing score helped what would have been a very modest game and he hasn't surpassed 180 passing yards in four straight games.

The weather in Buffalo for Sunday's game for Fitzpatrick and the Bills calls for a rainy day with winds around 20 mph.
Analysis: While the match-up is good for Fitzpatrick as he gets the Jaguars, the weather could make the passing game tricky for both quarterbacks. The Bills would also like to try and establish a running game better than they have in recent weeks, as they have a hot C.J. Spiller and are trying to make better use of him. Fitzpatrick may still do some decent work in his passing game, but anything over 225 yards would be kind of an achievement, based on his recent production and the day's situation.

Fitzpatrick was 17-of-33 for 180 yards in Sunday's win over Indianapolis. He threw one touchdown pass and one interception.
Analysis: Fitzpatrick has definitely cooled after a sparkling fantasy start, as he has just six TD passes over the last seven games after putting up 12 in his first four. And that makes six starts where he's been under 200 yards. Although the schedule is pretty easy the rest of the way, he's a below average option given that the Bills' best offensive players are running backs and they lack much of a deep passing game - and the big fantasy points that go with it.

Fitzpatrick was 17-of-27 for 168 yards in Thursday's win over Miami. He didn't throw a touchdown or an interception.
Analysis: The game management was there and Fitzpatrick didn't force too many throws, as has been a concern at times this season. Yet it was obviously a real dud from a fantasy perspective, as the Bills churned up some yardage in taking over the game in the first half, but didn't score an offensive touchdown all night and were completely ho-hum on offense in the second half. The schedule does get pretty easy for the Bills the rest of the way, but this is an offense that would prefer to establish itself on the ground first, as evidenced by the 28 carries between the two running backs Thursday.

Fitzpatrick threw for 337 yards in Sunday's loss at New England, completing 27 of 40 passes with two touchdowns and an interception.
Analysis: The pick was on the final throw of the game for the Bills, in the New England end zone with the Bills down six. While Fitzpatrick will take some blame again as he always seems to be one pass short whenever the Bills are in a tight game, rookie T.J. Graham admitted he ran a bad route on the play. This was Fitzpatrick's second best fantasy game of the season, with the best also being against the Pats earlier in the season. In fact, he's thrown for over 300 yards against them in his last four outings.

Fitzpatrick completed 25-of-38 passes for 239 yards during Sunday's loss at Houston. He did not have a touchdown or an interception.
Analysis: It's rare that the aggressive Fitz doesn't have at least one of either in a game, but it happened Sunday for the second time in the last three weeks. Fitzpatrick does have 15 touchdowns on the season, but he's simply not putting up the yardage like elite fantasy quarterbacks. In fact, the 239 passing yards was his second highest total all year. With both Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller in the backfield and not much of a receiving corps, this isn't likely to change drastically, even though the Bills are in a pretty big slump right now.

Fitzpatrick completed 27-of-35 passes for 225 yards in Sunday's loss to Tennessee. He threw three touchdowns and one interception.
Analysis: The pick was a big one, as it allowed the Titans to stage one last drive, which proved to be the game-winner. However, the interception looked more like miscommunication between Fitz and his receiver or just an outright bad decision than any mechanical issues, something that has plagued him in recent weeks. And overall the game was a good one for him, especially when you consider wind was a bit of a factor. He's on bye next week, followed by road games at Houston and New England, so now might be a decent time to try and sell high, off a decent fantasy game.

Fitzpatrick didn't have a great outing even though the Bills upset the Cardinals on Sunday, completing 18-of-32 passes for just 153 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions.
Analysis: We're not too worried about the lack of touchdowns, as the Bills like to chuck it in the red zone and Fitz does have 12 TD passes in six games this season. The yardage is another story: only once in six games has Fitzpatrick topped 208 yards, which is pretty horrible compared to some of the league's best quarterbacks. Stevie Johnson is a very good receiver and tight end Scott Chandler is reliable, but Fitzpatrick can't seem to get much going with anyone else. Coach Chan Gailey referred to the team needing to run the ball more following three blowout losses in the first five games, and that certainly happened Sunday. At least Fitzpatrick gets a weak pass defense this week when the Bills take on Tennessee, and the schedule certainly does get a lot easier following a bye/at Houston/at New England run coming up in Weeks 8 through 10.

Analysis: Fitzpatrick was actually the NFL leader in touchdown passes entering Sunday, but that will change after this week's dud of a game for the Bills. Fitzpatrick completed 22 of 39 passes for 350 yards and four touchdowns in Sunday's loss to New England. However, he also had four interceptions.
Analysis: This is all well and good from a fantasy perspective, as Fitz put up a huge day and now leads the league in TD passes with 12. However, he's also tied for the league lead in interceptions with seven, and coach Chan Gailey stated after the big loss that he's not comfortable throwing the ball so much. That thought won't go away if his quarterback keeps throwing so many picks. Fitzpatrick has turned out to be a real nice fantasy snag considering where he was probably drafted, but this also might be one of those sell-high opportunities if you have other good options, especially if he's your backup.

Fitzpatrick completed 22 of 35 passes for 208 yards and three touchdowns during Sunday's win at Cleveland. He did not throw an interception.
Analysis: It was a sloppy weather day where the team secured a nice lead early, so Fitz's numbers might have been even better, but that makes six touchdown passes on the season for him already. Fitzpatrick was 10 of 19 for 178 and two touchdowns in Sunday's win over the Chiefs. Fitzpatrick did not throw an interception after tossing three last week.
Analysis: Not the greatest completion percentage or yardage, but it was a much better effort that Bills fans were looking for, and with five touchdowns through two games Fitz has at least been a contributor. From a fantasy perspective, it's actually troubling that the Bills are quickly making C.J. Spiller the focal point of the offense, but perhaps once teams start to load up on Spiller more, Fitzpatrick will have a little more breathing room on the yardage front.

Fitzpatrick has an up-and-down day during Sunday's loss to the Jets - he finished 18 of 32 for 195 yards, with three touchdown passes and three interceptions.
Analysis: To be honest, while it wasn't a bad fantasy day, the three picks helped take the Bills out of the game and most of Fitz's production came in garbage time. He has plenty of leash here after the team made him the franchise quarterback last season, but this was closer to the Bad Fitzpatrick that we saw down the stretch last season than the Good Fitzpatrick that led the Bills to a string start in 2011. He may have to move forward without trusty slot guy David Nelson, who suffered what could have been a serious knee injury Sunday, plus RB Fred Jackson left the game banged up as well.

Fitzpatrick was just 7-for-18 for 89 yards against the Steelers during Saturday's preseason game.
Analysis: While Fitzpatrick remained upbeat in the locker room afterwards, he did not have a strong game at all and has had a fairly tame preseason this year. There is talk of employing the wildcat offense a little more this year which will limit Fitzpatrick's time under center, so overall he is looking more and more like a bye-week replacement if the match-up is favorable. That's where he's slotted in most drafts anyway, though we'll also say the Bills like to chuck it around a lot with a short-route offense, and Fitzpatrick is working with almost the same exact unit and coordinator that yielded a lot of success in the first half of the 2011 season.

The Bills plan to use the Wildcat package more than last season, BuffaloBills.com reports. This could potentially keep Fitzpatrick off the field for a few extra plays per game.
Analysis: The Bills used the Wildcat much more in the first half of last season and Fitz's overall numbers were actually much better. Then a bunch of people got hurt and Wildcat QB Brad Smith had to spend time at receiver. So remember it's a small factor - maybe a very small one - in Fitzpatrick's overall value. In fact, the other side of the coin is that the package has been so successful for the team in limited use, that by using it to get first downs and keep drives going, it indirectly gives Fitzpatrick more time on the field. We're liking him as a No. 2 fantasy option this year, given Chan Gailey's history of productive quarterbacks, improved mechanics under respective position coach Danny Lee, and pretty much the same offense returning from last season, including several key bodies returning to health.

Fitzpatrick completed 8-of-11 passes for 58 yards, including a 31-yard touchdown strike to Donald Jones in the second quarter of Friday's preseason game against Minnesota.
Analysis: Fitzpatrick was much more efficient than he was in his first preseason action, but the volume and explosion isn't quite there yet. There are questions as to whether or not Fitzpatrick has the weapons on the outside to be a valid fantasy starter. Those have not been answered at this point. His average draft position, however, makes the investment cost very low and he remains a solid backup option with plenty of upside if Buffalo's offense can get grooving.

Ryan Fitzpatrick: Works on Mechanics
Fitzpatrick and his new quarterbacks coach, David Lee, have already found some flaws in his mechanics and feel the quarterback could take another step this season once those get fixed, The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Everything is always seashells and balloons this time of year, but we're not going to dismiss Lee's strong track record with pupils such as Tony Romo and Chad Pennington, and the same goes for head coach Chan Gailey as far as getting a lot out of his quarterbacks. If you can get past the lack of a proven second receiver or the tough schedule, Fitz has a lot working for him heading into the 2012 season: strong coaching in a passing offense, a rapidly improving offensive line, continuity among the offense, and coming off a season where he threw for 3,832 yards and 24 touchdowns. It might be enough to make him a passable starting fantasy QB in deeper leagues if you go heavy on running backs and quarterbacks, and almost certainly enough for him to be a valuable No. 2 QB where you can safely play the occasional matchup.

The Bills signed Fitzpatrick's (ribs) teammate Steve Johnson to a five-year deal Monday.
Analysis: And the offseason starts off right for the bearded quarterback from Harvard. Over the past two seasons 25 percent of Fitzpatrick's completions have gone to Johnson. Almost 30 percent of his passing yards the past two years have been accumulated by Johnson. And more than a third of the team's passing touchdowns the last two seasons have been made by Fitzpatrick and Johnson, according to BuffaloBills.com. This offense hit its stride for much of last season -- injuries and a poor defense led to Buffalo missing the playoffs -- and with most players back in the fold and another year in Chan Gailey's offense, Fitzpatrick is going to make for a good quarterback after the top dozen or so guys are off the board, meaning if you have him as your No. 2 to a stud, you've done pretty well at that spot.

Bills wide receiver David Nelson has confirmed that Fizpatrick cracked a few ribs during the Redskins game In Week 8 and played through the injury for the remainder of the season, The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: That and injuries to the offensive line may be the two biggest reasons Fitzpatrick suffered such a drop-off in play down the stretch last season. Including the Washington game, Fitzpatrick had 14 touchdowns to seven interceptions to that point in time, but in the nine games that followed his ratio was an unsightly 10:16. It also seemed like he pressed to much with the depleted Bills playing behind all the time in the second half of the season. Nonetheless, the Bills made a big contractual commitment to Fitz and he can get coach Chan Gailey's offense clicking as good as anyone when the chips fall into place. He'll enter 2012 as the clear-cur starter.

Fitzpatrick finished with 307 yards passing with a pair of touchdowns and four interceptions in Sunday's season finale against the Patriots.
Analysis: The game was pretty much a microcosm of Fitzpatrick's season, as he started out on fire as the Bills built a 21-0 lead and then had a rough time the rest of the game, partly because of missing players (Stevie Johnson was benched and Scott Chandler was lost to injury). Even with the hiccups and all those nasty interceptions in 2011, overall Fitz was fantasy winner compared to where he was typically drafted, as he started every game and finished with 3,802 passing yards and 24 touchdowns. The Bills like to throw it around a lot, so with a healthier team next season he should remain a productive second tier quarterback.

Fitzpatrick was a modest 15 of 27 for 196 yards in Saturday's win over the Broncos. He was sacked once and didn't throw a touchdown or interception.
Analysis: Unlike some of the previous weeks, the poor fantasy performance here was more a function of the Bills surprisingly dominating the Broncos, mostly in bringing Tim Tebow down to Earth in the second half and scoring two defensive touchdowns plus a punt return TD that kept the Buffalo offense off the field. Fitz gets New England in Week 17, a match-up that could actually be appealing if you're in a pinch based on the Bills being a heavy underdog (hence, more passing if the game plays out that way) and New England's poor pass defense.

Fitzpatrick wasn't very effective for the Bills in Sunday's loss to Miami, but he put up a good fantasy day, going 30-for-46 for 323 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions.
Analysis: Fitz was brutal on third down, but with his team chasing the Dolphins all afternoon it created a lot of passing situations and the yards piled up. Fitzpatrick is playing nowhere near as well as he was at the beginning of the season -- he had a 9:3 TD:INT ratio through three games, 13:16 since -- but with the Bills playing catch-up to just about everyone these days the yards are still often there. As long as the weather isn't a disaster, playing from behind the last two weeks against Denver and New England seems to be in the cards for this reeling team.

Fitzpatrick was awful in Sunday's loss to the Chargers, completing just 13 of 34 passes for 176 yards and a pair of interceptions. He finished with a 31.0 rating and didn't throw a touchdown.
Analysis: The Bills are going to finish the season in disappointing fashion, but the hope here was that Fitz could end up in a shootout with Philip Rivers. Alas, Rivers put up all the big numbers, and Fitzpatrick will try again next week against a somewhat improved Miami defense, where the Buffalo weather could also play a factor.

Fitzpatrick passed for 288 yards and a touchdown (a two-yarder to Steve Johnson) in Sunday's loss to Tennessee.
Analysis: The performance was actually encouraging, considering how bad the Bills have been playing overall lately. But after a midseason lull, Fitz had picked it up a bit again, with 264 yards or more in his last three games and four touchdowns across that span. In his last four games, he'll get San Diego, Miami, Denver, and New England. The good news is those teams rank ninth, 24th, 17th, and 32nd, respectively, against the pass. The bad news is, three of those four games have the potential to be played in nasty weather.

Fitzpatrick was 26 of 39 for 264 yards in Sunday's loss to the Jets. He tossed three touchdowns and no interceptions and finished with a 111.5 rating.
Analysis: This was the best fantasy game Fitz has had since Week 3 against the Patriots. It was nice to see the passing game clicking again, though we wouldn't go too overboard in thinking he's going to produce like this the rest of the way, as he did at the beginning of the season. Weather will become an issue where Fitzpatrick's below average arm will pose a problem, and this team still has a number of injury issues on offense. Still, as Sunday shows, this team still throws the ball enough and he's a capable enough QB to put up decent days as a spot starter.

Fitzpatrick had another rough outing in Sunday's loss to the Dolphins, the team's third straight defeat. He was 20 of 39 for 209 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions, all for a 45.8 rating.
Analysis: That makes 11 picks in the last six weeks for Fitzpatrick, and he's topped 244 yards just once over that span. He gets the Jets next week, and with Donald Jones out with injury again on top of everything else and the bad weather coming, Fitz's value is a shadow of what it was earlier in the season when the Bills were clicking on all cylinders.

Fitzpatrick struggled for the second straight week, completing 20 of 31 passes for just 146 yards in Sunday's loss at Dallas. He threw one touchdown, to David Nelson, and was picked off three times, all for a 46.6 rating.
Analysis: The Ryan brothers seems to have Fitz's number, as he's been simply awful the last two weeks against the Jets and Dallas. He's really slowed down his production lately in a season that started with incredible promise. He's thrown for 262 yards or less for six straight weeks, and if you take away his first two weeks of the season he has an uninspiring 9:11 TD:INT ratio.

Fitzpatrick (chest) struggled in Sunday's loss to the Jets, passing for just 191 yards with a touchdown and pair of interceptions.
Analysis: Fitzpatrick somewhat predictably had a tough time against a really strong defense, completing less than 50 percent of his pass attempts. In fact, Fitzpatrick didn't lead the Bills to a touchdown until 3:14 left in the fourth quarter when he tossed a short score to David Nelson.

Fitzpatrick (chest) is active for Sunday's game against the Jets.
Analysis: Fitzpatrick is fine, but he is up against the tough New York pass defense this week, so you might want to look elsewhere.

Fitzpatrick (chest) is listed as probable for Sunday's game against the Jets, according to BuffaloBills.com. He's participated in practice to some degree all week.
Analysis: There was little doubt Fitz would play this week after finishing last week's game following a hard shot from Washington's London Fletcher, but there's your final confirmation if you needed it. He'll be up against Darrelle Revis and a good Jets pass defense, ranked seventh in the league in yards allowed per game.

Fitzpatrick (chest) was limited in practice Thursday, WGR550.com reports, but is fully expected to play Sunday against the Jets. Asked if he was concerned, coach Chan Gailey said, "Not in my mind, or his mind, or the trainer's mind. So those are the three most important people right now."
Analysis: There's almost no chance Fitzpatrick will miss this week's big game against the Jets. He's just sore after taking a huge hit from ex-Bill London Fletcher during Sunday's win.

Fitzpatrick is listed on Bills' injury report with a chest bruise but practiced fully Wednesday, The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Fitzpatrick, who's tied for second in the AFC with 14 touchdown passes, will certainly be out there for a key divisional contest this week against the Jets.
