Mare connected on 4-of-5 field goals and 2-of-2 extra points Sunday against the Lions.
Analysis: Signed off the street to replace Robbie Gould (calf) the final three weeks of the season, Mare hit on 6-of-8 fields and 7-of-7 extra points. With the ultra-reliable Gould expected to return with no health problems, Mare is likely to be a free agent again in 2013.

The Bears signed Mare on Tuesday, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: The veteran will replace Robbie Gould (calf), who was placed on IR by the Bears on Tuesday. Mare connected on 22 of his 28 field goal attempts with Carolina last season, and with over an 80 percent career success rate, Mare is a viable option to replace Gould.

Olindo Mare: Cut by Panthers
Mare was released by the Panthers on Monday, the Charlotte Observer reports.
Analysis: Head coach Ron Rivera stated that he wanted the kicking job to be decided after the third preseason game and with that done, he's decided to go with Justin Medlock instead of the veteran Mare. It wouldn't be shocking if another team gave Mare a tryout but a starting job seems unlikely now.

Mare continues to battle Justin Medlock for the Panthers' kicking job and has struggled from beyond 50 yards, the Charlotte Observer reports.
Analysis: The job is Mare's to lose, although there is still plenty of time for him to do just that. He's shown some good distance on his kickoffs, but just hasn't figured out how to split the uprights on longer kicks. On the other side, Medlock has been solid from deep, but struggles on kickoffs. This appears to be a battle that will be decided during the remaining three preseason games.

After a good start to training camp, Mare has begun to struggle, allowing Justin Medlock to get more kicking opportunities and possibly move ahead of Mare on the depth chart, the Charlotte Observer reports.
Analysis: It appears that the Panthers want Mare to win the job but he's simply not doing enough for the team to cut ties with Medlock. If the veteran continues to struggle, he could be looking for a job in the future.

Mare did all of the field goal kicking during Monday's practice, the Charlotte Observer reports.
Analysis: Mare is in a battle for the kicking job with Justin Medlock, who has traveled around the NFL but hasn't gotten a full-time role yet. The Panthers weren't overly impressed with Mare last season and if he struggles during the preseason, Medlock could move ahead of him.

Mare was 2-of-2 on field goals and 6-of-6 on extra points Saturday against the Bucs.
Analysis: A very busy day for Mare, although most of his work was in the single-point variety. His field goals were from 19 and 21, which usually don't warrant bonus points in many fantasy leagues. He'll be kicking in a dome next week in New Orleans, which means the conditions will be perfect for kicking.

Mare was 4-of-4 on extra points but did not attempt a field goal Sunday against the Texans.
Analysis: Mare had to kick for his job this week in practice and was rewarded by keeping his job. Unfortunately for fantasy owners, that didn't lead to much this week thanks to his zero-attempt day.

Mare won the kicking competition between him and rookie Adi Kunalic this week and will continue to kick for the Panthers on Sunday against the Texans, the Charlotte Observer reports.
Analysis: A veteran kicker who almost lost his job is not the safest bet in the fantasy playoffs, but Mare is out there if you need him this week.

Mare could lose his job to Adi Kunalic if he doesn't out-kick him during practice this week, Joe Person of the Associated Press reports.
Analysis: When the Panthers brought Kunalic in, it wasn't clear if it was simply to put pressure on Mare or if he could actually replace the veteran. Head coach Ron Rivera made it very clear that if Kunalic is better than Mare this week, Mare will not be active this week. His four-year, $12 million contract may be the only thing keeping him in a Panthers uniform right now.

Carolina signed kicker Adi Kunalic on Tuesday.
Analysis: It's not clear whether Kunalic will kick field goals this week, but Mare is on a short leash at the very least. He's not getting cut at the moment, though, perhaps due to his four-year, $12 million contract.

Mare missed his only field goal attempt Sunday against the Falcons, but did make three extra points.
Analysis: A down game for Mare at the worst possible time for many fantasy owners who are in the playoffs this week. The Panthers didn't struggle to move the ball against the Falcons, they were just too good at scoring touchdowns for Mare to have much of an impact.

Mare was 2-of-3 on field goals and 3-of-3 on extra points Sunday against the Colts.

Mare was 2-of-2 on field goals and 3-of-3 on extra points Sunday against the Lions.
Analysis: The game was a high-scoring affair and it was nice to see Mare get in on the action. He hasn't gotten a lot of opportunities as of late but if the Panthers' offense picks up, he could get some more moving forward.
