Rob Gronkowski: Procedure On Tap Monday
Gronkowski is slated to undergo a fourth procedure on his left forearm Monday, the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis: Gronkowski, who also may need back surgery this offseason, must first have his arm issue addressed, with Monday's procedure slated to determine whether or not the infection in his arm has completely cleared up. If so, the next step would entail replacing the plate currently in his forearm with a new one. Once that happens, the tight end is looking at a 10-11 week recovery period. In any case, things will need to proceed smoothly (with both his arm and back) going forward in order for Gronkowski to be ready to go come Week 1, with his prognosis on that front hopefully on tap to become a little clearer in the coming days.

Gronkowski is reportedly in line to have a fourth surgical procedure in order to change the plate that is securing the broken bone in his left forearm, the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis: The report notes that the plate has to be switched out, in any case, and the surrounding tissue tested to determine whether or not the lingering infection in Gronkowski's forearm has cleared up. For the time being, doctors are holding off on the procedure, in the hopes that the infection will be fully cleared up when they go in to replace the plate and if that's the case, the tight end will then be able to embark on what the report suggests would be an 11-week recovery period. In the (hopefully unlikely) event that the infection persists, though, a fifth surgery would be required and in that scenario, Gronkowski's availability to start the season could be impacted.

A definitive call on whether or not Gronkowski will need a fourth surgery on his left forearm could still be a couple of weeks away, ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Things are still in a wait-and see mode as doctors try to determine if the infection in the tight end's forearm has cleared. On the plus side, thus far, there have been no unexpected setbacks, with the report adding that Gronkowski has looked good, while having been able to work in the Patriots' offseason program.

Gronkowski (arm) believes that he will be cleared for the start of organized team activities in a few weeks, the Boston Herald reports. "The arm is feeling way better than it was during the playoffs, and in the regular season when I broke it," Gronkowski said. "When my (trainers) give me the good to go, hopefully in the next couple weeks, as soon as possible, I can get going again."
Analysis: Gronkowski -- who underwent surgery in February as a result of an infection that cropped up in his balky left forearm -- noted that his arm, which he first broke in Week 11 and then re-broke in the playoffs, is feeling fine at this stage. Barring any setbacks, it sounds like he's in line to be at or near 100 percent by the time training camp rolls around, but we'll let you know if that assessment changes.

Gronkowski underwent surgery last week as a result of an infection that cropped up in his balky forearm, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Analysis: Schefter adds that Gronkowski's infection (apparently in his elbow) was caught early enough for the tight end to avoid missing extended time. The report further notes that Gronkowski is still expected to be ready for training camp.

Gronkowski continues to sport a long cast that extends past his left elbow, the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis: In other news, Gronkowski was spotted in Orlando this week wearing a "Sorry For Partying" tank top, which is perhaps in response to the buzz created by a recent video of the tight end performing a wrestling move on a friend at a Las Vegas nightclub, despite still having his forearm in the aforementioned cast. In any case, while some have suggested that the 23-year-old might want to tone down his off-field behavior, teammate Logan Mankins -- viewed as a veteran leader on the Patriots -- isn't too worried about Gronkowski, as long as the tight end doesn't break the law or re-injure his balky forearm again. Assuming no unexpected issues in his recovery from his twice-fractured forearm, Gronkowski is expected to be fine health-wise by the time training camp rolls around.

Gronkowski (forearm) has been placed on injured reserve by the Patriots, Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis: It's now official that Gronkowski won't play again this season, though the expectation is that his arm will have ample time to recover as the 2013 campaign approaches. Assuming no unexpected issues in his recovery from his twice-fractured forearm, Gronkowski's name will sit atop our preseason fantasy TE rankings.

Rob Gronkowski: Suffered New Forearm Break
The fractured arm Gronkowski suffered in Sunday's playoff win is not identical to the one he suffered in November, Comcast SportsNet New England reports.
Analysis: A source close to the situation said Gronkowski's new fracture had nothing to do with whether his arm had fully recovered in the first place. He underwent surgery Monday to address the new fracture, and although he'll miss the remainder of the season, he should enter the 2013 training camp at full health.

Rob Gronkowski: (Forearm) Surgery on Tap
Gronkowski, who re-injured his left forearm against the Texans on Sunday, is slated to undergo another surgery to repair his arm, NESN.com reports.
Analysis: Gronkowski originally underwent surgery after breaking his forearm in Week 11, before returning to the Patriots' lineup in Week 17. Assuming no complications with his upcoming procedure, we'd expect that Gronkowski will make a full recovery, but he's clearly done for the season and will likely make a point of taking his time with both his recovery and rehab. With Gronkowski out of the mix, there should be added looks available in the Patriots' offense for the likes of TE Aaron Hernandez, as well as wideouts Wes Welker and Brandon Lloyd.

Rob Gronkowski: Done for Season
Gronkowski is out for the season after breaking his left forearm again in Sunday's playoff game against the Texans, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Analysis: Losing Gronkowski is obviously a huge blow to the Patriots' offense. Look for Aaron Hernandez to be in line for added looks in the playoffs going forward as a result. Gronkowski is in line to have his arm surgically repaired once again and we'd expect that this time around his recovery will be handled with extreme caution.

Analysis: Gronkowski appeared to aggravate his forearm injury early in the first quarter and as a result went to the locker room to have it examined. Should the Patriots win, they would host the Ravens this coming Sunday, which might not be enough time for Gronkowski to heal. Analysis: By virtue of the Patriots' first round playoff bye, expect to see a healthier and sharper Gronkowski out there Sunday against the Texans. Gronkowski (forearm/hip) is listed as probable for Sunday's game against the Texans, the Patriots' official site reports.
Analysis: Amazingly, the Patriots tidied up their injury report this week, zapping 16 players Friday to whittle the list down to five players listed as probable. We'll take it, but the question is, where has this sort of reasonable injury reporting all season? Either way, Gronkowski will be out there Sunday, as assumed all along.

Analysis: The general feeling is that Gronkowski will be limited by the Patriots in his return, but how much remains unclear. If the Texans end up losing to the Colts on Sunday though, it would no doubt encourage the Patriots to pursue a win Sunday, with a first round playoff bye within reach.

Analysis: It will still be worth confirming Gronkowski's status -- one way or the other -- prior to the Patriots' 4:25 ET kickoff Sunday. At this point though, it looks like he's on track to suit up in the team's regular season finale, though if that happens, it's uncertain how close to his normal workload he'd be in for on Sunday, with the general belief being that the Patriots could choose to limit/manage Gronkowski's snaps in his first game action since November 18.

Rob Gronkowski: Reportedly Expected to Play
Gronkowski (arm) is expected to play in at least a limited role against Miami on Sunday, CSN New England's Tom E. Curran reports.
Analysis: Curran is citing a team source rather than any official statement by the Patriots, as New England likely won't release anything official until game time arrives. Still, even if Gronkowski does play, it will be a risky fantasy proposition given the potential (if not likely) limited role for Gronkowski.

Gronkowski (broken forearm) is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, the Patriots' official site reports.
Analysis: Of the 20 Patriots listed as questionable this week, Gronkowski is among the iffiest. His Week 17 status -- one way or the other -- likely won't be confirmed until shortly before the Patriots' 4:25 ET kickoff and even if Gronkowski does end up being active, it's hard to imagine him seeing a lot of snaps, in any case. Analysis: As were Wes Welker, Brandon Lloyd and Aaron Hernandez, though as was the case last week, only Gronkowski's status for Sunday is in any danger. Though Gronkowski (broken forearm) has been back at practice in a limited fashion for over a week, he won't play in a game until he's medically cleared to do so, which has yet to occur, the Boston Globe reports. "We'll take it day-to-day, based on where he's at. He's moving along, not ready yet."
Analysis: There has been talk that the Patriots might be aiming for Gronkowski to get in some game snaps prior to the playoffs, but that's no lock to occur at this point. Rob Gronkowski: (Forearm) Surgery Performed Monday
Gronkowski underwent surgery to repair his broken forearm Monday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports
Analysis: Rapoport suggests a four-to-six week timetable for his return, while Tom E. Curran of Comcast SportsNet New England suggests that Gronkowski is looking at a four-to-eight week time-frame and ESPN.com chimes in with a vague, but slightly more optimistic expectation that he'll miss "probably a few weeks." Either way, a (very) late season return to the Patriots' lineup seems to be a best-case scenario here. While no one can directly replace Gronkowski in the team's offense, his absence will create added opportunities for Aaron Hernandez (ankle) once he is healthy, while Visanthe Shiancoe, Daniel Fells and Michael Hoomanawanui (to a lesser degree) are candidates to see added looks as well. The initial timetable for Gronkowski to return from the broken forearm that he sustained Sunday is 4-6 weeks, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports.
Analysis: Gronkowski broke his arm on the Patriots' final extra point late in the fourth quarter of Sunday's blowout win over the Colts. We'll track Gronkowski's status closely in the coming days, but if the 4-6 week timetable holds, then his regular season fantasy value could be close to done. Gronkowski's injury naturally heightens the need for Aaron Hernandez to return from his ankle injury sooner rather than later.

Ron Gronkowski: Broken Forearm?
Gronkowski may have broken his forearm in Sunday's win over the Colts, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports.
Analysis: While Gronkowski will undergo further tests on the arm, it's still too early to determine if he'll miss any time. The Patriots are thin at tight end, as Aaron Hernandez is still dealing with an ankle injury. Gronkowski had two touchdowns and 137 yards, before leaving the game with the injury.

Gronkowski (hip) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Colts, the Patriots' official site reports.
Analysis: With 20 players listed in all and 16 deemed questionable Friday, the Patriots' Week 11 injury report remains robust, despite the team coming off a bye week. It's tempting to think that if Tom Brady showed up at practice with a hair out of place, he might be listed as "head/questionable," but either way, we are not too worried about Gronkowski's status for Sunday's 4:25 ET game, which more than we can say about the truly iffy Aaron Hernandez.

Hernandez becoming a dual threat in '12?

He should be one of the first two tight ends selected in drafts this year.

Gronkowski (ankle) was not sporting a red jersey -- which identifies players who are limited -- at Thursday's practice, the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: A healthy Gronkowski is an extremely valuable target in both real and fantasy terms, though it's worth keeping in mind that the Patriots' addition of WR Brandon Lloyd, as well as the continued presence of fellow TE Aaron Hernandez, could cost him some red zone targets this season, which will probably make it difficult for Gronkowski to match last year's total of 18 touchdowns.

Gronkowski (ankle) was not among the players placed on the preseason PUP list by the Patriots on Monday, ESPN's Mike Reiss reports.
Analysis: We've been hearing lately that Gronkowski is good to go, so this nugget seems to confirm that. Gronkowski remains an elite tight end in both real and fantasy terms, which is backed up by his lofty ADP, which currently sits at No. 26 overall.

Rob Gronkowski: Ankle Feels Great
Gronkowski didn't take part in the Patriots' organized team activities and mandatory minicamp over the last four weeks, but he did note Monday that his left ankle is "great," ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Though he declined to say whether or not he would be ready for the start of training camp in late July, the fact the Patriots recently signed Gronkowski to a multi-year extension that suggests the soundness of his ankle is not a major long-term concern.

Ballard claimed by Patriots
After being released by the New York Giants, tight end Jake Ballard has been claimed off waivers by the New England Patriots. However, Ballard is expected to miss the 2012 season as he recovers from the ACL injury he suffered during the Super Bowl.
Analysis: Ballard is obviously not a fantasy option this season. Even when he does return, he will be stuck behind Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez.

Analysis: Gronkowski is coming off a season in which he caught 90 passes for 1,327 yards and 17 touchdowns. He has proven to be a key red zone target for quarterback Tom Brady with 27 touchdowns in 32 career games, and his new contract reflects how his importance in the Patriots' future plans. Scaife signs with Patriots
Tight-end Bo Scaife signed with the New England Patriots on Thursday, adding depth behind stars Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez and Daniel Fells. This is the third team Scaife has played for in three years.
Analysis: Scaife hasn't found fantasy relevance since leaving the Tennessee Titans and will be buried behind the Patriots star tight-end duo of Gronk and Hernandez. Unless Scaife finds another team where he has a chance to earn a starting role, he carries no fantasy value.

Gronkowski continues to rehab his ankle during the Patriots' current OTA's, the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: The report adds that the rehabbing tight end "looks about 10 times better than he did in the Super Bowl," which suggests that Gronkowski is progressing very well in his recovery from offseason ankle surgery. Barring any setbacks, there is no reason to downgrade Gronkowski due to health concerns. In fact, if he loses any fantasy value this season, the culprit would likely be him losing looks to the likes of fellow TE Aaron Hernandez and wideout Brandon Lloyd.

Rob Gronkowski: (Ankle) Sheds Boot
Gronkowski, who underwent ankle surgery 10 weeks ago, has shed his walking boot and appears to be walking just fine, the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis: Gronkowski has been able to participate in the Patriots' offseason program, though at this point that only entails strength and conditioning. It remains to be seen if he will be a participant in the team's mini-camp in June, but there's nothing to suggest that Gronkowski won't be ready to rock by training camp.

Rob Gronkowski: (Ankle) Could be Ready for OTA's
Gronkowski, who underwent a "successful" arthroscopic procedure to clean out the ankle he injured in the AFC Championship, is looking at a 10-week timetable for his recovery, the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis: Gronkowski, whose injury was a high ankle sprain, could be done with his rehab as early as late April, which would would give him plenty of time to be ready for the Patriots' organized team activities and minicamps. In any case, there is nothing to suggest that the tight end's ankle will be an issue heading into the coming season.

Gronkowski, who was dealing with a high ankle sprain, caught two passes for 26 yards in Sunday's Super Bowl loss to the Giants.
Analysis: Heading into the offseason, Gronkowski acknowledged that he would continue to get treatment on his ankle, but noted that he won't need surgery. Though he was clearly hobbled in the Super Bowl -- arguably a key variable in the Patriots' loss -- Gronkowski was remarkable during the regular season, catching 90 passes for 1,327 yards, with 18 total touchdowns, 17 receiving, both NFL records for tight ends. As a result, he'll enter the 2012 season justifiably atop fantasy TE draft boards.
