Avery a top Week 6 target

In his Week 6 Targets and Touches analysis, Jason Smith notes "Donnie Avery nabbed 12 targets from Andrew Luck but he's hard to recommend to play. Indianapolis' passing game isn't as dynamic as it will be eventually." FULL TARGETS/TOUCHES ANALYSIS

Analysis: Reggie Wayne and Luck are the only two players you can trust in your fantasy lineup. Still, Avery is worth plucking off the waiver wire and stashing away for a rainy day if you have the room.

Analysis: He was targeted a team-high 12 times as at least this week he was the No. 2 option in the passing game. However, Avery and T.Y. Hilton have been sharing the targets at receiver after Reggie Wayne.

Analysis: Along with the low output, there were some negative signs for Avery's fantasy value. He was fourth on the team with eight targets and saw fewer passes thrown his way than T.Y. Hilton (9 targets). Avery may not be the clear No. 2 option in the passing game he was earlier in the season with T.Y. Hilton healthy.

Collie done for the season

Another brutal break for Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Austin Collie. He's going to miss the season with a torn Achilles tendon.

Analysis: You have to wonder if this is the end for Collie. In the short term, however, it means more opportunities for T.Y. Hilton and Donnie Avery to see targets. Andrew Luck is still in search of a consistent No. 2 option.

Avery had two receptions for 28 yards in Sunday's loss to Jacksonville.

Analysis: While Avery's production dropped after last week's 111-yard game, he was still second on the team with nine targets. However, T.Y. Hilton had a strong game with eight targets and 111 yards receiving, so Avery may not be as much the clear cut No. 2 option after Reggie Wayne as he was the first two weeks of the season.

Analysis: Avery was targeted 11 times by quarterback Andrew Luck, which led the Colts. While Avery had the yardage, Reggie Wayne was able to get into the end zone.

Analysis: Avery started at wide receiver with Austin Collie out and had the third most targets (8) from Andrew Luck. The wide receiver situation after Reggie Wayne was murky in the preseason, so it's a good sign for Avery's fantasy value that no other receiver had more than four targets. Avery could continue to be the third option in the passing game (along with Coby Fleener) if Collie remains out with a concussion.

Avery will start at receiver with Austin Collie inactive against the Bears due to a concussion, the Indianapolis Star reports.

Analysis: Avery should get a decent number of targets, but the Colts may have difficulty going to the passing game on the road with a rookie quarterback at the helm - even if the QB is highly-touted Andrew Luck.

Analysis: It was his first appearance of the preseason and he looked over a thigh injury that caused him to miss two games. He could begin the season as the No. 2 option in the passing game if Austin Collie remains out with a concussion.

Last year, he played in eight contests (with the Titans) and only caught three passes for 45 yards and one score. Reggie Wayne and Austin Collie are likely to be the Colts' top passing options, but Avery could see some time in spread packages.
